Regarding cutters, I (and from posts many others) just use those dirt-cheap plastic craft knives with snap-off blades. I've considered using a roller cutter, but discounted this on the basis that they are really only suited to long straight cuts, which are only a very small proportion of the cuts and cutting time, and I'd rather not have to change tools just to do those.

Sorry, not being in the US, will have to leave your questions about cardstock, foamcore and glue to others.

80lb coverstock is even sturdier than 110lb cardstock, but I have never seen it in any store near me.

I am one of those who prefers the snap off utility knife. knife + 11 blades for $1 at the dollarstore.

And I also get my foamcore from the dollarstore.

I know most of you revile scissors but for detail, curve, or short cuts I LOVE detail scissors!

But then most of my models lately have been paper toys and glueless kits.

I think they would help with some of the natural shapes and spiky trunks found in the hinterland set.
