I have found the ULTIMATE craft knife: the NT Cutter Cartridge-A 1000R. (Package says A-1000BP)

It’s rare for me to endorse (much less buy) such a high-priced tool (it’s $16.75), but there’s something magical about finding a perfect tool.

The catch? It’s from Japan. The upside? I’m only a couple hours away from Japantown, in San Fransisco!

This thing is beefy! It’s an all-metal body, except for the red bits. There’s NO wiggle or rattle when I’m using it, either; it’s solid!

The blade advance has double the steps, allowing for more precise control, and it’s smooth, too. It also holds five blades (no more digging around to find ‘em!), and auto-loads new blades, for maximum safety and cool factor.

I liked this thing from the moment I opened the package... and then I used it. Now I LOVE it! It cut cardstock like butter. Yes, it’s a new blade, but the weight of the metal body made for such a professional feel. I didn’t even need my hand’s weight for scoring. The only analogy I can think of is I felt like a carpenter who had been using a plastic hammer the whole time, and switched to a metal hammer.

The NT Cutter simply feels like the right tool for the right job.

I love cool tools.

I feel I have to defend the honor of the blade I've been using for the last few months. After my exacto started getting too loose to use (the blade grip wouldn't stay locked), I spent a day going through craft stores and hardware stores, looking at their various blades, hefting them, testing them out, seeing how much replacements were, etc.

And I found this, which I think completes with the other Best. Knives. Ever.



Very nice heft and balance, very solid construction, and nice plastic grip. The blades are _REALLY_ nice, make the exacto blades seem like, hmm, butter knives compared to a new kitchen knife.

Um, robby, you're hotlinking to that knife image. That's tantamount to stealing bandwidth from that site, kinda like piracy. I'm surprised at you with all the talk I used to see on these forums about piracy! You should get that image on your own server and link to it there.

Fair enough. Guess my coffee hadn't kicked in (although in a situation where you're pimping someone's product - as opposed to say, using for an unrelated/non-revenue producing purpose like an avatar - usually companies have less of an issue with it). But regardless, fixed.
