I frequently offer advice to followers of my blog if ever they have any problems with card modelling. Yesterday, I was asked a question that has left me stumped. A friend is about to start a zombie apocalypse campaign and is using a lot of the Mayhem City models on his gaming board. He wants to know if he can protect his models with a varnish or sealant to prevent his gamers from ruining them with sticky fingers or a spilled drink?

I have never heard of anyone varnishing card models or coating them with a sealant, like those used for chalk or pastel artwork. Can it be done? If so, what would you suggest he uses. Like me, he lives in the UK.

My advice was to lay down the law with his players to respect his models and above all, to keep drinks well away from the gaming table. Your comments and advice on this would be most appreciated as this is the first time I have had a card modelling query that has left me unsure how to answer.

Again, I'd suggest first trying with a couple of wall sections first before (possibly) ruining the entire set. I used two thin layers and that was sufficient and prevented warping. I don't think that thin layers would be a problem with most brands of spray varnish.
