So i wanted to share this with the community.

i have gotten my last two printers from craigslist and could not be happier with them. you will need to be careful and study any potential models you pick up but it really seems like a solid way to buy a printer for dirt cheap. you can often find a high quality used printer for cheaper then a low end new printer.

My first puchase a few years back was a canon pixima ip670D old but still working great for about 35 bucks.

I just picked up an old Okidata C9600 (wide format laser) for 375 (retailed for over 3000 a few years ago).

things to watch out for.

cost and availability of consumables, some old printers may still work but may not have parts still in production. find a source for stuff before you buy.

remaining life span of loaded parts and consumables. a new fuser for a laser printer could cost you as much as you paid for the printer, so make sure you know the real cost of a used printer.

this appears to be one of those rare times where supply and demand work in your favor. there is a far greater supply of used printers than there will ever be a demand.
