Hi, all.

I'm currently making a bunch of the CaveWorks tunnel sections, and I'm wondering if anyone has an easier way of cutting out the "doorways" (the white cut-this-part-out parts) than using the tip of the ol' X-Acto knife. I find that the pressure required to cut through the two layers of cardstock leaves my fingers rather scrunched and sore. Any ideas?

Also, I'm planning on modifying the stand-alone wall sections so they are clip-it compatible (a la InteriorWorks); basically just gluing a 90-degree tab on the end(s). I was thinking of printing out a few of the long sections and cutting them up as needed so the tabs will be camouflaged. Has anyone else done this?

When I find some free time I would like to expand the CaveWorks pack to include "clip-it" compatible free floating walls. The DungeonWorks expansion will include these wall types as well.

I have to say that my hand cramped up a few times while cutting out the door sections on the cave tunnels. Thats the price you pay for a detailed cutout I suppose. Im sure a really sharp small bladed hobby knife would be easier to use. Any suggestions anyone?

ok, here is a tool i have come to love, but it is hard to find.  X-acto makes a small bladed, disposable "box cutter" type knife. it is made of plastic, rather flat, and bright orange.  it has a grip that is molded to fit your hand, and really is a lifesaver when cutting lots.  the blade is retractible, but still is small enough to get the detail you need.

Anyone tried using the Xacto swivel knife? Thought about picking up one but didnt know if it would work well through the posterboard.  Here's a link to one if you haven't seen em:

Wrap a length of athletic tape around your x-acto behind the collet. It'll make the knife FAR more comfortable during long periods of use, or while putting more pressure on the knife.

Have you tried using a hand held hole puch? You can puch out around the inside perimeter to remove the part that needs to be discarded. If you take your time you can reduce the scalloping affect. The scalloping that is left could be easily removed with your hobby knife with a lot less stress and strain on the hand.

If you look around you could probably find punches with different diameters for the circular cutter. There might even be some with other shapes besides round holes. I have not looked, but some of those craft stores might have the different shapes.
