I've been trying to kitbash interiors for my castleworks classic. And I'm stumped as to how to do the tower. I'm having a hard time just deciding the number of levels and where to cut it.

Right now the only thing that seems obvious is that I should make 2nd floor start just below the upper level door frame. I think I'll probably do that double layer of foamcore that was suggested for the CWU tower.

Luckly CWC doors wouldn't even need to be adjusted for this, they are already raised up. And since the tower is square I used the interior corner braces I kitbashed to stack the tower levels.

But now I'm stuck. Should I do a 3rd level? But if I do I'd need to make that middle level very short or have the floor level of the 3rd floor be right at the bottom of the arrow slit window.

But if I just make it 2 levels the upper one is a huge waste of space. Especially if I do it way CWU does and have the wall be removed when entering the room.

Any suggestions?

Either way, it sounds like a kitbash would solve things.

If two levels, just cut the walls shorter (or edit them in Photoshop, etc, first).

If three, add a bit of height in Photoshop. This one's harder, but might be worth it - your call.

Just keep in mind what other model sets you want it to be compatible with (in terms on floor height). Some sets are 2" tall per floor (especially older sets) and most of the newer sets (and upcoming) are all 3" tall per floor.

I've been stuck on the tower interiors for awhile. As mentioned I could just have altered the exterior. However, what I've been trying to do is make interiors for the set as it is, so the one thing I don't want to do is change the building shells.

A couple days ago I finally had an idea I kind of liked. What I decided to do is make a very tall room. And add catwalks so that archers could fire through the arrow slits.

The problem was how to get the walls to stack when they're no longer square sleeves. What I did was cut off the arrow slit walls just above the window top and remove the door walls completely. Then I copied sections of the brick texture from each corner to make exterior braces to hold the walls in place when stacked.

I did use a double layer floor. I need to glue the arrow slit walls to the floor so that they could be stacked. The extra layer of foam core ment that I could use my interior corner braces to keep the tower levels lined up and still be able to glue the walls to the floor.

I'd thought I'd need to add tabs, that were flush with the wall edge but rise above the outer corners at the top of the arrow slit walls, to keep the tower's top section from sliding. But the corner bracing and double layer of flooring keep it in place pretty well.

Could you not hinge the upper portion so it opened out, rather than taking it all off?

That never occured to me. I cannot think of a good way to do it though. I would tend to think that there would be some balance issues involved. And it would probably be even trickier to do considering theres no way to be sure what structures would be near the tower in a completed build.

Although Shatteredragon has some CWU buildings that have removable sections of walls. Perhaps something like that would be better.

You could weight the bottom with pennies, and hinge both inside and out, and have it opening to outside so it wouldn't hinder and interior buildings.

Thats a pretty cool way to do it. I like the cut away wall idea.

Just goes to show the old set still has a lot of life left in it!
