Ok, well I have finished a few of the mentioned builds. The pics might be a little big, but I think I did a'ight. So, without further ado...

I know, some of you will ask what happened with that extra 1 1/2" tab. But this is just to get an idea on how 1/4 of a block will look like. I am planning on making more of the lots, and I'm having a great time doing it. My daughter is ectatic (?) about it and so am I. Let me know what yall think.

Generally speaking, I'm quite pleased by what I'm seeing. I only have two minor complaints.

1) The fences around the vacant lot weren't done as the instructions specified (two sices fully fenced in, four 7" long fences coming in from the sides to nearly meet in the middle 1" apart).

2) The Apartment Complex was all 3 storey high, not 3 different steps. I didn't want to get to the multi-height thing until the next one along (the idea was to take this a bit slow for less-advanced builders).


Phenominal work, though.... PLEASE keep it up.

Thank you guys for all your kind words. This SketchUp took me less than ten minutes to put together. It was easy (at least to me it was) and I had an idea on what it will look like.

For Spoo:
Just follow what LD2062 said. It is how I did it. But I kept the full resolution on the textures. My video card can handle it.

For LD2062:
I had already built alot of these models from scratch. All I did was bash the lots together. After they were bashed together, I saved them as components and then as models. So one lot acts like like one model, instead of many different ones. If you like, I can give you one of these to see how I built them.

For Highlind_Piper:
I already made a bus, and I should have put it in there. But I got lazy.

For Andorax:
Yeah, the fences that I put were already made using the available textures. Again, I got lazy and just used what I had. I will correct this and replace the pics. Also, I will rebuild the apartment complex so that they are all 3-storeys high. This should be done by tonight.

Up next, I am going to make the basketball court and also make a 1/4 with rail-road running through it. Then I will make a full block, but not sure on how I will orient it. I might also take a shot at making the huge hotel. Unfortunately, I cannot make buildings with Mayhem Industrial 'cause my wife took my credit card away and I can't purchase anymore. Bummer.

By the way, does anyone know where the basketball hoops are? I seem to have lost them. Thanks again.

Nice. Good job on the basket ball hoops. I know how tricky some of the props can be to do in sketchup.

Not just tricky, but fun. I really have no life and I like to plop myself down in front of my computer and just SketchUp until I'm fed up. It's all good and I think I am more than capable of doing the job.

Neat work there Gleemonex. If you really want to get a lot out of SkUp but don't want to shell for a +$60 text book you should have a look at this one:

#12: Bookstore and Antiques

Going to play around some more with some possible Shellendrak designs. Start off with the basic grid again.



We're going to do a big and little store for this corner. Start the ground floor off with stone walls right out to the edges and wooden floors on most of the layout...about like this (note the 4x4 darker wood in the lower-left corner).



Now fill in the interior walls. Note the tile room in the corner is separate (a bathroom). Besides that, the larger store is one big area, and uses a single style of wall, as does the smaller store.



Add a door to the bookstore (lower-left corner), a door to the antique store, and a door for access to the bathroom, and you've got your layout. The bookstore can now hold Shellendrak bookshelves (or others, if you have them...we've done several), and the Antique store can be filled up with an assortment of other paintings, furnishings, and such from Shellendrak, or even bits borrowed from elsewhere (I'd study over InteriorWorks: Castles & Keeps for some of their tables and chairs, and another very fancy bed and dresser).

Of course, if you want to really do it up fancy, you can always add an interior staircase (also from Shellendrak) along one wall of the antique store, and an entire second floor (this time, the whole square as wood flooring) in the same style. The diagram looks a bit boring (though note the windows along both street-side walls), but if you imagine it full of antiquey furnishings, it seems a lot more complete.



The Shellendrak roof for this store should be really easy, as it's once again just a 15x15 square and four even sides (though I still recommend picking up my gridded roof kitbash for this one).

One other kitbash you should use for this build is the 'side door', by Seattle Gamer, a simple way to add a much less pretentious, but still texture-matching, way into and out of your two storefronts:

How many scenarios of modern gaming call for an ancient book, or other unusual and misplaced object of antiquity (and power)? These two stores should see plenty of valuable use.

#13: Secret Lab Gone Horribly Wrong

Needless to say, #13 has to be something genuinely appropriate and special. We're going to do some tricky bashing this time 'round to put this one together, as we're using bits and pieces from several different sets (some not even Modern) and some weird stuff. Try to stay on board with me, though, as the end result should be well worth the effort.

We're going to start off with a modified parking lot, with a standard Adjustment Tile set in the corner. To get the full effect, be sure to put the extra gap towards the outside:



Run a fence all the way 'round it...yes, including across the entrance. The gate is closed, and nobody ever sees it open, or anyone parking in this lot for that matter...

No openings this time, either.



Ok, now for that building. We're going to use the Shellendrak style (separate outside and inside walls glued back to back) for this one. For the outside walls, we're going to go a bit off the beaten path here...print yourself off two of the concrete barrier walls from Mayhem Rail. They have the "generic featureless building" feel we're looking for. Go ahead and cut 'em in half instead of gluing them back to back...these are being used only one sided.

Graffiti or no graffiti is your call...depending on whether you want young punks to have climbed the fence and 'tagged' the building or not.

You'll also want to grab a plain, drab-looking exterior door to slap onto one wall...Downtown has a bunch of good options.



Now here's where it gets REALLY interesting. For the backs of those walls, you're going to go where few (and generally no Clix players) have gone before. Print out four Shadowcore Prime 7" Wall sections. Don't fold them down the middle, and trim off the tabs on the sides...glue the base back to back with the base of the concrete wall, and trim the excess off the top.

Pick your favorite 7x7 GRIDLESS tile, and use it for the floor of the building. Gridless is important here, and I have an answer to solve the problem you're no-doubt seeing.



We have a basically 4x4 space here, but no grid to follow. Yes, that's a problem, and one with no easy answer, since Shadowcore is a gridless/1" product only. But I have a solution! Your next stop is First Light Retrofit, where they have a 3" square "containment platform" and associated containment module. Build it, and place it in the center of the room.



The squares around the containment platform can now be easily and readily inferred by their positions relative to the center-blocking containment module. If that's not sufficient, then you might want to just carefully hand-draw gridlines with ruler and pen.

To finish, put a very generic and drab looking roof on top, to match the innocent-seeming exterior. Personally, I like the light grey roof from Mayhem Armory.

I might pick that up as well. I ran into lots of questions on a recent project, and learnt a lot while playing around, but that book might take me a step further. Thanks for the link.

Awesome! Those look so good.

Gleemonex can I ask why the image itself is blurry - is it a setting level you chose or something else.

The idea looks great and the motion is what we need for table layouts in promos but IMO I would not be " turned on " to the set if that quality of image was shown to me (without knowing the truth behind such textures).

Can you reshoot this in a higher size and have Denny host it?
