I'm having issues with my personal website where I've been tossing my images lately (may take an alternate route), but I have been working on more bits and pieces for this system.

I like the destroyed buildings. The foamcore walls work great a cinder blocks or brick.

@PallS: Thanks. I cheated. The phone booth is from a plastic "Scenic Masters" model RR scenery set.

@Andorax: I do really like the modularity of this project. That is what drew me to it right from the start. You did an excellent job on the planning. All I had to do was make the builds. I added in a few twists of my own, but Iam adhering to your basic plan because I like the modularity. The pics I posted were selected to show the modularity. The last pic from the sniper's perspective shows a different layout of the buildings, and one view shows the blank pink board where my garage kit bash would normally go. Another thing I like about the modular set-up is that you can play on a huge table of four 37.5" street corner boards or you could just use 1 SCB for a small game. And you could always have a different set-up. It's a great idea, Andorax. We really like the versatility. Thanks again.

Well, since I am moving I will no longer be able to keep my section of city that I built. I might give it to my local gaming store so that they may use it on their 'Clix nights. But I am thinking of the modularatiy of this system. Maybe I could make the streets permanenananant (?) and have the buildings hot swappable so that I could add w hatever corner I wanted. I think that is the idea behind this and I'm gonna try it out. Local elections are coming up soon, so I will have an ample supply of plastic gator board for use on the master floor plan and maybe even for some buildings. I will keep you guys posted.

Here's some more ideas to chew on!

#16: City Park

With huge thanks to Matt, we can now easily add city parks to our build with the newly-released Hinterlands, in 15x15, 15x30, or even 30x30 scale. Just toss down a set of ground tiles (from Shellendrak/Mayhem PD if you want a nice, clean lawn)...




Then add trees to your heart's content, in either style and whatever varieties you might prefer. You can dress it up still further by including a cement patch with picnic tables (from Armory or Urban Grind), Benches (from Bits of Mayhem), and Bike Racks (from Mayhem Rail).



Another possible option would be to add a lake to the park using anything from Marina water to the waters of Skull Cove.

#17: Skate Park

Urban Grind, of course! The set is quite well suited to a single tile in your design. Were it me, here's how I'd lay one out.

Start with a set of four ground tiles, of course:



Install a fenced backdrop (from Bits of Mayhem chain link, you're well familiar with it by now) and build a Corner Stair, 4 4" stairs, and 2 3.5" stairs, and arrange them along two sides of the park, thusly:



Then add other skate park elements that you like, whichever fits best to your preferences and layout...there's a fair amount of space in this size of tile.

#18: Lucky Joe's Loading Yard

Can't take credit for this one...Lucky Joe came up with the layout for this modular segment, utilizing platform command and the various "shipping container" kitbashes:

Start off with four concrete tiles...or if desired, use the rusty metal plates from Platform Command: Operation Nightwatch* (he did, and it turned out really cool looking). Shown here are the already 1.5" Platform Command: Battleground rusty metal plate tiles.



Build yourself a 6" square platform*, with a ladder leading up to it and a pair of bulkheads to support it.



Now toss in one of the big container combo builds, and several loose containers to fill in the space throughout. Leave room enough for a truck to get in and out, or set it up beside a rail line (Hmm...maybe this needs a big crane and to sit next to the marina. SO many ideas.....)



* Note: Platform Command: Operation Nightwatch is a 1" only modelset. If you're building this for Clix, and thus in the 1.5" scale, you may want to resort to using Platform Command: Battleground (which IS 1.5" compatable), or scale the pieces up 150% before printing them out.

#19: Mini Mall

We're going to start small...the Megamall has such massive potential that it can get out of hand in a hurry. So to begin with, we're just going to to a standard 15x15 tile of bits and pieces from the Megamall.

We start off with two reserved spots in the upper corners, both 6x9, for the "signature" stores of the Mall, and a smaller 3" x 6" spot for Crazy Vanka's. The Ground Tiles file has a good 3" x 9" strip to go between our two larger stores, and Crazy Vanka's has a full-size tile as well, that can be chopped up to fill in the other spaces.



Crazy Vanka's isn't designed as a standalone building, so some tricky are required here. Use page 1 and the doorframe 3" wall of page 2 for three sides of the interior, and page 9 or 10 of the MallWalls file for the exterior (use the exterior doors on page 12 to fill the doorframe on the inside, and match it on the outside). Close the front of the shop with the counter (and, as applicable, the security barrier). Fit a 3" x 6" chunk of roof to the top, and don't forget to add the awning.



The other two shops are up to you...whatever fits your preference. They should both be built as 6x9 shops, as shown in the regular Megamall instructions. Each shop has in it a 3" wall that can be paired with another 3" section to create the 6" storefront with a "normal" door opening, instead of the wide bay fronts typical of mall shops.

Wrap an outside texture around it using the Outside Walls files and exterior doors once more.

Fit a roof accordingly, and you're good to go.

You might also want to put a few picnic tables out on the bare concrete (The Megamall has them, but I really like the ones from Urban Grind or Mayhem Armory myself for outdoor builds), and maybe a couple of Megamall planters as well.

#20: Public Beach

Going to go with an odd combo here...I'd like to combine the just-out Atlantis set with bits from the Mayhem Marina. Don't be too skeptical...I've made odder combos work before. Just bear with me.

This is another extra-wide build, a full 37 1/2" x 15" like the Docks build. Regretably, the clear and beautiful waters of Atlantis don't look much at all like the murky harbor of the Marina, so these two builds just plain don't sit well side by side.

Start with the tiles. It's mostly a straightforward Atlantis layout here, though there's a Marina tile plunked down in the middle for parking purposes.



The 1.5" x 6" pier makes for an excellent boardwalk. Just fill the side away from the water with it all the way along (except for the concrete part).



Then if you go all the way back to Mayhem Armory, you'll find an umbrella...which you simply must include in any beach build. It'll even provide you some picnic tables you can place here, and others you can use elsewhere (such as in the Minimall build listed above).

I can't believe this thread is well over a year old now. Lots of great ideas so far, but there's still a lot more that can be done here as well. I'd still love to see anything and everything described here get built someday, so aspiring model builders...please have at it!

By the way...with the introduction of the grand cathedral, following the "block design" would require four separate Street Corner Boards and take up a layout over four square yards! Here, just for the fun of it, is a look at what such a layout might look like, even without using some of the newer bits and pieces.



And folks, without repeats, that's not even including the Mayhem PD, Parking Lot, Vacant Lot, Shellendrak Old Building, Antique/Book Store blocks, City Park, Skate Park, Loading Dock, Minimall, or Public Beach (another two full Street Corner Board's worth and then some)!

Wow! What a great update, Bob. That big layout pic is sweet! It's good to see some more activity in this project. I like the way you used Urban Grind in the layout. I think that will make a nice feature. Multi-level, good cover, and just a generally cool model set. I like the beach, too, that's a neat idea. I could see using that for an insertion point for a Seal team, especially if you added some palm trees from Skull Cove. I've been waiting for some MegaMall stuff and I like your ideas for that. I hope someone builds one soon. That park idea is a good one. I bought Hinterlands so I could do that when I get time. And thanks for including my little loading dock. I feel famous.

I have taken appart my built section, trying to figure out how to better store and transport my creation inspired by this thread. What I did, is I split and carefully cut it up using a sharp utility knife and a metal ruler. Then I removed the street tiles, and set them on self-adhesive floor tiles. This gave the impression of a raised curb and gave it a more 3-D look. Check the pics and look carefully, my camera is kinda wonky.

What humidity can do to a build

I used plastic board that I think is called gator-board. It is as thick as standard foam core, but it is made with plastic and it has channels inside. It is tough to make paper stick to it with the high humidity here, but it is not prone to bending or warping. I get these when local elections are over and the "Vote for Me" signs are just sitting there. I nab them, and use them for whatever I want.
