By the way, I've had 2 out of my 4 UHU sticks somewhat fail on me. Twice (2 different pens) there must have been too much glue at the tip when I screwed the cap in. The next time I unscrewed the cap the entire yellow applicator tip came off! I quickly screwed it back in and then rescrewed it again and everything was okay, but once it happens it is prone to happen again! Beware of having too much glue on the end when putting it away for the night.

Store them upright, like brushes.

If you're having problems with UHU on glossy laser (which I use a lot of), do the paper towel trick. Put the glue on the surface as normal, then take a paper towel and dab it over that surface. It makes the surface a little tackier, and for whatever reason makes the glue holder quicker and better (I suspect it absorbs a little of the glue, and also transfers a slight bit of the paper towel to the surface, increasing adhesion).

I had the tip-unscrew failure once too. I cleaned it and screwed it back on, no repeats yet.

No humidity problems with my Arenaworks stuff yet, here in fairly humid central Texas. I don't spread the glue out much. Maybe that helped.

I really do like the non-wrinking nature of the UHU pen glue compared to my old white glue and carpenter's glue, though.

I’m gonna have to unfortunately not recommend the UHU stick. It might just be the humidity up here (Erie PA), but I’ve never seen so many busted seams. It’s been very disappointing, actually. I’ve built the First Light Retrofit and it looks cool, but I am constantly putting out fires. One seam busts here, the glue sticks to a door that only days before moved perfectly there. The turrets are so bad I’ve taken to using superglue on them. The front windowpiece on each has become unglued at least twice.

I am now using the Mono Aquaglue to do the interior pieces and it seems to be holding much better (so far). I’d love to say that UHU was great, because I really wanted to like it. But in the end I have come to the conclusion it is hard to work with and doesn’t hold up well in the summer heat. Maybe you need to put it on perfectly and it will hold…if you can do that, knock yourself out. However I am not afraid to admit that I am imperfect. I need a glue that is a bit more forgiving. If you use UHU in a place of high humidity, beware.

I've been using a lot more super glue lately, this time of the Elmer's Super Glue Gel variety. I like this superglue A LOT so far. I've been through two tubes, and just got two more.

So now I use Ross Glue Sticks (the big ones) for gluing large surfaces, UHU for gluing small/medium things (especially ones requiring quicker drying and that need to be a little stronger), and super glue for anything very small or that requires a tremendous bond.

I found some glue in a craft store (it was either Michael's or Hobby Lobby) a few weeks ago called Aleene's 2 in 1 Glue. The 2 in 1 means it is permanent if you stick the pieces together while the glue is still wet and repositional if you allow the glue to dry until it is clear before you stick the pieces together. It is kind of a very light blue when wet.

There is a felt applicator that is approx. 3/8" x 1/4" \ 9mm x 6mm . The applicator is spring loaded. You press down on the applicator until the glue soaks the felt. The cap has a rectangular receptacle up inside it to hold the applicator when the bottle is capped. The felt tip has not dried out yet after a few weeks of off and on use.

As with the UHU Office Pen your experience will probably vary. It always seems that one person will have no problems with something while another person will be completely unsatisfied with the same product.

My experience is that it does form a strong permanent bond when used for that purpose. The repositional feature works OK. Contamination of the glue with dust and lint etc. weakens the glue bond after a while. That is probably true with most repostitionable glues. The cost was around $3 US for the .845 fl oz \ 25ml bottle.

How could you?!

I've tried similar stuff, but of a different brand. I'll have to look up the name when I get home. I liked it for gluing small areas, but it dried far too fast for large area or sandwich folds (<5 seconds in most cases).

One thing I experimented with was using this in its temporary form on the bottom of my foamcore tiles so that I could lay out the tiles on the table without having to worry with bowties to connect them or Velcro to fasten them down. It worked okay, but the adhesive tends to give out very quickly. I may need to try going with a thicker application, or possibly trying different surfaces (I was trying to stick them to my vinyl battlemat and to a melamine laminate table).

I've tried the UHU pens and glue-sticks; I have problems with the adhesive not holding on both, especially in areas like the tabs on Clip-It walls. I've also had my tiles come up from their foamcore bases. I would probably like the pens better if the glue had some color to make it easier to see where the glue was or if the applicator was a little more conducive to applying a broad thin coat. My gaming room in in the basement, and the humidity is fairly high, so this might be a contributing factor.

The glue i like best so far it Aleen's Tacky Glue. It's cheap, easy to use, holds great, and I haven't had any warping problems so far. For sandwich folds, I use a small rolling pin (couldn't find a burnisher, but Wal-Mart carried 6" rolling pins) to make sure everything is smooth and to squeeze out the excess glue, then I let them dry while pressed between books.

Has anyone seen the new(well...new to me anyway) UHU Glue Pen type dealie. It's a bit larger than their standard Office Pen. But it now has a 2 sized dispenser nibs & holds quite a bit more glue. Of the nibs, One very small for detail or small tabs. And one large(larger than the standard glue pen nib) for large flat areas. It's pretty nice. I picked one up today at Michaels.

(it's hard to tell from the following picture, but it's taller than the UHU Office Pens, and is 3.21fl oz instead of .68fl oz. Also the glue is not "quite" as thick as the UHU Office Pen.)

Well, it does say that it's okay for paper, but I'm wondering if the formulation is the same as the Office Pen that Denny recommends, or if it's like some of the other UHU pens that warp the cardstock.

Have you tried it on large sandwich folds yet, Floyd?

Actually Have to agree, we have had wicked humidity for the past few weeks and EVERYTHING i made with the Glue pen has come open.

Looked at the 2-in-1 glue that I've tried, it is "ZIG Memory Systems 2 Way Glue". It goes on blue and dries clear. If you stick things together while the glue is wet, the bond is permanant. If you let it dry, the glue is temporary (like Post-It notes). It dries very fast (<3 seconds on paper, a little longer on cardstock). The permanant bond holds fairly well and it doesn't warp at all, but the working time is too short for all but the smallest glue areas.

The temporary aspect is interesting, but it tends to pick up dust and loose its stickyness fairly quickly. It also doesn't stick to melamine laminate at all (my game table is a 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" melamine laminated plywood).

My final opinion is that while it is interesting, it really isn't very good for cardstock modelling (at least the way that I tend to do it).

I have use Aleene's Tacky blue spread with a toothpick with great success on smaller pieces. It needs to be spread extermely thin. If I accidentally cut through the paper, I can use Aleene's Tacky Glue, again applied with a toothpick to repair the damage.

I have not used it over a large surface and still use either a glue stick or a glue pen. Unfortunately I cannot find the glue pens that Denny lists here in Seattle, so I started with an Avery Glue Pen, awaiting my order of UHU Office Glue Pens.

I have a bottle of this glue I bought last year for standard non modeling jobs and it has more water content than the stick pens. It is a general all purpose glue. Strong, but it will warp paper. Tired it once to see what it would do.

Hopefully, on blank cardstock.

I attempted to follow the link to order some directly from the manufacturer and I get an error, so I went directly to the site and put in the Model number and it no longer comes up. I've sent an e-mail asking if it has been discontinued or if the one listed under Office Pens is the correct one.

I'll update with my findings.

Mission Accomplished, time for a beer!

I need to get the product number of the UHU glue I'm using now. I love the glue, HATE the applicator on the standard office pen. They have a larger pen (same glue, but the pen is about twice as wide) that has a much better applicator - its a, hmm, net-like top that holds and applies glue so much better.

I'll try to remember to get the product number tonight.

I refilled an empty Elmer's Glue-All pen with the Uhu Office Pen glue.
