In the file "hullsides", on page 6 which is labeled "Ratline Ledges", there are four rectangles at the bottom of the page with a single score in them running along their length. I can't tell what they're for and I don't see any mention of them in the instructions. The four Ratline Ledges up top I fold up and such and glue to the sides of the ship... But I don't see any instructions for the four things on the bottom of that sheet in hull_instructions.pdf.

Is there something I'm missing?

That sounds plausible, and they bear a resemblance to the image in the instructions that talk about ratline ledge extensions, but it's not perfect... In the image it looks like it's the image that's on this sheet and then a square of white next to that, and these are just little things. Also, these have a score that indicates they fold and the image in the instruction doesn't show them folded. What's confusing about it is that the texture on them is very similar to part of what's show in the ratline ledge extension instruction (top of page 26 of the instructions)... If this is confusing I can post images that I will blur up so they aren't usable to people who haven't bought the thing.

It sits unfinished on a shelf, and I've moved on to other projects, feeling demoralized. If you breeze past (or get hung up on) the steps I got stuck on, it might help motivate me to finish what I started...[/selfish]

The instruction text associated with that image from the instructions: "Cutout, fold over and glue the ratline ledge extension. Allow a short drying period. Glue the bottom white space in preparation for the next step."

But as I think you can see, the item in that picture doesn't match the red-circled item from page 6 of hullsides.pdf.

Any other ideas for what those four things under the Ratline Ledges might be, preferably with a reference to the specific instruction that references them?

Update: I've found the component that corresponds to what's shown in Ratline Ledge Extension instruction.png above... I still have no idea what those four things are (one of which is circled) in Ratline ledges.png.

Curious problem!

Can you measure the length of the masts and of the rat lines (both sets), just to double check something hasn't gone wrong there (e.g. a short mast could cause that problem)?

Sorry to bring this thread back on topic, but any thoughts on what those things are?

Been a long time since I dove back into those instructions but yes, the ratline extensions grab hold of the ratlines and provide just enough tension to keep them temporarily in place.

And apologies for the late reply. I'm up to me ears in TerraClips production, trying to get things off to the factory.

I recognize this is trivial, and I'm probably just going to recycle those four tabs of paper, but it's frustrating to me that I don't see any evidence to support the explanation being given by multiple people...

I'm sorry... I'm not trying to be difficult here... But I see no evidence of those four pieces being used on the ship for anything. I don't see them in the instructions, I don't see them in any angle of the finished ship, nor in use on the finished ship or on the back four ledges in any of the instructions when the four ratline ledges are completed.

Can anyone show me a single instruction that shows when or how they're put on? Not the Ratline extensions. I see very well how those two items are used.

On page 26 of hull_instructions, I see the instructions for how to use the two ratline extensions found on pages 7 and 8 of the ForwardHull document. What I don't see anywhere is where to use the four things that fold in half that you can find in the image of the page Ratline Ledges... All the images that show the ratline ledges do not show those four little guys in use... I don't see them on the bottom of the ledges, they don't appear to extend the ledges, and they don't appear to be on the side of the hull above the ledges, and as near as I can tell they're never mentioned.

In the image I'm attaching, they don't appear to be there. Can anyone point me to a single frame or page of any instruction file where they are in evidence or that explains how they're used?

See? No evidence of those things that I've circled in red above in Ratline Ledges.png...

On page 26 of -hull_instructions- are the ratline ledge extensions instructions, although the pics only show the fore ones - the rear ones are made the same way, only smaller.

If you look closely at the pics on page 9 of -bringingitalltogether- you will see the extensions glued on top of the ratline ledge, those three metal pieces you see are the ones on the part you circled above (the extension pieces)

As bigbadbull said, the 'extensions' are used to extend the ledge (in the picture) horizontally until they match up with the rat lines. If necessary, you can bend the extensions downwards to accommodate a bit of extra length on the ratlines.
