Hello gang,

Recently I have been doing some work on paper miniatures. I drew up a Necromunda enforcer gang to play with and my next project is drawing up and building what I need for a Dark Elf army in Warhammer fantasy.

I designed a 3d chariot okay, and I've got plans for the Hydra and all that other stuff, but the thing that really has me stumped is a good way to do the Cold ones (velociraptors) and by extension, horses in other armies. Does anyone have any good ideas for horse designs that will look okay from the front and the side?

I will post pictures of what I have done so far when I take some later. I call my Necromunda gang the 'Saturday Morning Precinct' because they are cel shaded and look like they walked out of a GI Joe episode.

I don't have any experience with cardstock creatures. But if you're looking to have them 3d the dungeonlinx dragon or mel's bugs might offer ideas.

Essentially they seem to use a 3d torso and flat appendages. If the appendages also had a center fold, like the hinterland tree branches, they would even present a face from any side.

That IS a tough one. Getting back into WH and 40K myself. I would say some box-like or U shaped structure (with the opening facing down) should work well.

Here are some pictures of the Spear regiment that I finished. I will be lining them in with a cool grey pen soon. I will post pictures of the 1000 point force when I'm done.

I think that if the figures are placed at various angels radiating out from the center you would get a better 2.5 feel and avoid the “flat-line” side view.

True but facing is reallyimportant in Warhammer and I don't want there to be any confusion. Getting some of the more snobby people to play against my paper army will be enough of a challenge without having any gameplay challenges as well.

I want to build a huge army and then get castleworka and siegeworks to make an amazing siege game.

I'm only talking 10 to 30 degrees, the movement tray you made determines the facing.

Could try off-setting every other mini by a few mm either way (see OneMonks basing system) to give it some depth and keep them from running into eachother.

That said, as a Warhammer player, use real minis you cheap bastard! Kidding, kidding. I would have no problem with people using whatever as long as its noted what the unit is. Just don't try to play at a GW store with them.

over my warhammer career I have painted about twenty armies now. I always sell them for a great profit but it gets really old painting them up only to see them go away after all that hard work. Not selling them is never an option. Anytime I've got a thousand dollars worth of painted army sitting around it is hard to justify to the wife why I can't just sell it and buy a new army and pocket the extra. I love painting and I love the models but this is a good way for me to play and keep armies.

Well, think of it this way. All that practice made you a great painter! At the same time, I am not sure I could part with my minis. I get too attached. If your ever in the Seattle area and want a game of whatever, lemme know!

Absolutely, although I seriously doubt I will be up in that way. I live on damn near the opposite end of the country in Alabama.

I love painting, and I love the miniatures. I will be in no way stopping painting, but I do think there is a charm in building a 1000 army in under a week. There is also some good to "Oh, I need an extra unit of spears next week", file, print. Ta-da.

Well, for anyone interested in my progress here is a shot of the 1000 point force on the table for battle. Since the picture has been taken, everything has been black bordered, but this gives the general idea.

Thanks, I thought it turned out the best as well. The chariots have been rescaled to be larger since that photograph, and I'm redesigning the 'Cold Ones' after I finish my Hydra to be a little more three dimensional.
