I think the difference may lay in how the printer lays ink onto the page. I know that photos take a ton of ink, but that would warp cardstock.

I've got an HP Deskjet 990cse that does incredibly well for everything I've tried. It autosenses the type of paper you have in it, so it uses the right amount of ink for what you need.

When I was looking, I made sure it would take cardstock, too!

I just recently bought the Cannon Pixma iP3000 and it does print on cardstock just fine from the rear feed. It also does a great job on photo's.
So don't rule out the Pixma so quickly it really is a great printer

My i860 will handle a stack of cardstock (25+ pages) with no problem, the rear feed is the primary. If I take off the secondary feed (4x6 photo paper), it doubles the capacity of the rear feed to ~50 sheet of cardstock (~150-200 pages normal paper).

I'm checking with my friend with the iP5000, I'll edit as soon as I hear back.

[EDIT] He said that his iP5000 will feed a stack through the rear feed. He has never used plain card stock, but he has feed a stack of greeting card stock through it with no problem.

What I found odd about the continuous feed system is that Epson endorsed it. You used to be able to click a link on the Eson site to get there, I don't know if you still can.
