First off, hello everyone!

I've been looking into WWG models for a while now because I really wanted something to spice up our table. I had looked at things like Dwarven Forge and balked at the price, considered casting my own molds but just don't have the time to invest from start to finish. That's when I stumbled on these wonderful sets. Everything I've seen looks great, and I feel that I can get tons of use out of things like Chunky Dungeon and others.

My biggest concern is printing. I've lurked in the forums for a while, reading post after post, but I feel it's best to ask, and everyone here seems nice and helpful.

I have a Brother MFC-J430w, and I'm a little worried that it won't handle the cardstock needed for these sets. Here is the media recommendation from the printer's user's guide:



I've read of some people having success with photo paper, but I'm not sure if that will work with this unit either.

I was hoping someone could yay or nay on whether or not this will work or if I should look at using print shops for my needs. As it is a perfectly good printer, I would hate to have to replace it with a different one, but if a sub-$100 option exists, I might consider that as well.

My concern with the printer is how it feeds the paper. Does it only have a cartridge that stores the paper, or does it have a rear paper feed? I usually feed my paper from the back, which beds the paper less. If photo prints come out of the printer just fine, then I wouldn't be too concerned. I primarily use Staples matte photo paper (I pick up lots when it's on a good good sale w/ rebates), but I use Staples cardstock too sometimes for prototyping and what not.

I had a great experience with a manger at my local Staples. I was talking to him about printers and paper, and papercrafting. He actually let me sample some different types of Staples paper to try it out. If there's any way you can get a sheet of cardstock to try (it never hurts to ask, especially if you tell them you're into a hobby that will use a lot of paper and ink!) maybe you can try it out first hand.

Yeah, aside from the fact that the manual only suggested light-weight paper formats, the printer only runs off of cartridge-fed pages, which I would think is the biggest choke-point for this guy; given the weight and thickness of cardstock.

I may look into testing a page out to see what happens. Since the Staples Photo Supreme Paper Double Sided Matte is a bit over the specs for this unit, I'll see if someone at my local store has much knowledge about it, but it may just come down to buying a second/replacement printer.

The 110 lb card stock you see referenced on this site is 199 g/m² (or gsm). The list you showed has 200 g/m² so you should have no trouble. Generally if a printer is capable of printing business cards or greeting cards it should be able to print using the card stock that is recommended for paper models and terrain.

I went to my local Office Depot on my lunch break and picked up a pack of Wassau 110 lb cardstock and tried a test print at home to see how it would fare just moving through the machine and everything went smoothly! So it looks like I'll be able to start crafting in no-time.

Welcome to the addiction. Glad to see you don't have to invest in a new printer to find out how addictive this stuff is. There is plenty of time to find out later that you simply can't live without a new printer, or continuous flow ink system. lol Glad to hear your trusty printer will handle the card stock. Let us see what you can make if you can.
