Have done a ton of research regarding printers. Contacted Epson (never got a response), Canon (models advertised as capable of handling 110lb do not), HP (responded and suggested a model), Lexmark (out of my league).

Right now I’m looking at the HP 8740. Has anyone used one of these? I bought a $350 Brother Laser Printer and returned it the next day due to extreme curling on pages (excessive heat caused it).

2 different sales reps suggested staying away from laser and going with inkjet.

I use an HP 451dn Color Laser exclusively for my papercraft. Every model is different, sadly. I highly recommend taking some cardstock (or whatever paper you plan to use) and a file or two on a USB thumb drive to your local big box stores and try out test pages on their demo printers to see how they work. That's what I did. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot on whether the printer will even handle thicker paper well or not. (even if they say it does)

I will admit I have never had any issue with my printers not handling cardstock well, but that could just be luck. I have had two Brother printers that I used extensively with continuous ink systems, which was very economical on that front. After both of those eventually died (over a 10 year span), I was gifted a printer from a friend as a stop-gap, which was an Epson model that used their pigment-based ink (as opposed to the dye-based ink my Brothers had used). In addition to papercrafting, I collect video games and I utilize my printer to print out high-quality case inserts (think DVD or BluRay case covers) for any games I have that are missing them. When utilizing even a cheaper photo paper, I was impressed by the difference the pigment-based inks made in quality. The quality is less noticeable on a more traditional paper finish like cardstock, but, to my eye, there is still a quality difference that is worth it (to me). The cost of use, though, is definitely higher for me now. I tried to utilized a continuous ink system with that printer, but the pigment-based ink (if that's what it really was--who knows what these companies give you sometimes) in that system ended up essentially damaging the nozzles. Pigment-based printers need to be used at least every couple of days, too, to prevent nozzle issues, so there is more care and feeding there. Anyway, just a thought there, if you are going inkjet, you can find pigment-based ink and dye-based ink printers from a number of manufacturers, so that's one more aspect to consider. I bought another Epson pigment-based model, which is what I use now, and for now I pay the iron price for their packaged unicorn blood.
