Has anyone had any success using paper trimmers (flat surface with a blade that runs on a track to make a straight 90 degree cut) with the WWG products? I would think that these would make cutting out designs like the clipit walls with large numbers of straight cuts much quicker.

I have a relatively inexpensive 12" Fiskers trimmer that I have used, the biggest problems I have run into are locating exactly where the blade will cut and adjusting when my printer doesn't feed the paper perfectly square.

I saw one by Carl Manufacturing at Wal-Mart the other day for about $25 that looked like it would be ideal for the WWG products. . It uses interchangable/replaceable blades and the design is supposed to make it easier to locate where the blade will cut. There is even a specialty scoring blade. It claims to cut through materials as thick as mat-board. They also make a hand-held cutter () that also supports a scoring blade.

If noone has tried these, I may pick up one or both to give them a try and post the results. Worst case I'll give them to my wife to take to her work (she is a teacher).

I actually picked one up, along with the scoring blade. The particular design of this one makes for a very accurate cut. The guide that the actual cutter runs on is spring mounted, so you can lock the paper in place when making the cuts. The blade is also visible (though shielded from fingers), making it easy to locate when the cut will be. Instead of having a groove under the blade like some trimmers, it has a solid strip of cutting-mat type material, so I haven't had any problems with trimming off extremely fine strips (less than 1/32"). My old Fiskars trimmer would just bend the paper into the groove under the blade if I tried to trim less than 1/16".

In general, I really like it for items like the Clip-It walls and floor tiles, it makes the cutting go much faster. I can also rough cut some of the larger pieces like Cunky walls and such, but I still need to do a lot of cutting with the trusty Xacto to finish it off.

The scoring blade was a bit of a disappointment. It doesn't truely cut the paper at all, it just crushes it in a very narrow line. The folds from "scoring" are not nearly as crisp as what I get from scoring with an Xacto knife. I tried to replicate the Exacto technique using the trimmer with the normal blade, but I haven't gotten the feel for it yet. I tend to either not cut at all (rarely) or cut completely through (usually).

The only good thing about the scoring blade is that it came with a perferating blade that works like a dream. It will cleanly perferate anything from paper through cardstock. I can see my wife (a teacher) geting a lot of use from that blade. Hmmm.. I wonder if I could perferate instead of scoring... I'll have to give that a try.
