You'll notice I registered on this forum a long time ago. I was all hyped to get into WWG, but I had one major factor holding me back. I don't own a printer. I don't even own one of those free printers that comes with a new computer. Sure, I've done research, I've shopped, but printer shopping is terribly frustrating. Eventually I just went on to other projects. I want to give this another shot.

The printer and ink seems to be the most expensive part of this hobby. It is easy to find out what paper or glue to get, but the info here about what printer is best is hard to find. I've read the thread about what settings people use with their current printers, but it doesn't really help determine what printer someone should buy. Has anyone puchased a printer recently with WWG in mind? Where is the Definitive Printer Thread? If your printer died today, what would you replace it with?

So what are the factors to consider? Printer, ink and per page costs, of course. I think seperate cartriges for each color is ideal. No sense throwing away ink just because you're out of a particular color. Speed isn't a factor. There is plenty of cutting and folding to be done between each page, right? Has to be able to thick paper. Quality = Inkjet, but is laser still a contender?

Any help would be much appreciated.

One last note before you decide 100% on laser:

If you glue with superglue gels (like I do), keep in mind it reacts strangely with the laser toner. On a printed area, the superglue gel will smear the ink, and won't give a decent bond.

That's why I'll stick with a good quality inkjet.

However, since you haven't really had time to develop any strange building habits (yet ), you should have no problem staying away from the superglue gel...

I've got an Epson Stylus C66 at work and an Epson CX4200 at home.

Personally I really like them. They print decent enough and the ink seems to last a long time. I print hundreds of full color pages before my ink starts getting low. I can get a whole new set of ink cartridges for about $35 so it is great. I also like the fact that there is a seperate catridge for each color. I had an HP at work previously (before it died) and I always thought it was such a waste that once a single color ran out you had to toss the other colors with it.
