So, as I'm hitting the craft store for more blades to finish the Maiden, the idea springs in my head to get some Velcro (a couple of 5' rolls), for a mini-chunk Masterboard... Yeah, a couple of rolls... You can see how far that got me...



Any sources on bulk Velcro rolls? I don't recall seeing rolls bigger than 10', and those were the name brand (I, of course, went with the cheaper "off-brand" stocked by this particular store. Results are fine, I just need to purchase a hell of a lot more...) It probably doesn't help that I'm sticking with 3/4" squares for the 1" Mini-Chunk board at 32x40...Probably could have gotten away with 1/2" cuts...

When I started my MiniChunk project, I looked into bulk Velcro extensively.

The cheapest I've yet found is a 3' roll of 3/4" wide white Velcro from Michael's, for $1.99.

It has both sides, and is by far the cheapest.

Don't feel bad. I think I have spent about $30 on my 30" x 20". And I still need a few more feet. I have expermined with different levels of coverage, using smaller squares for example and found that 3/8" square piceses are not good at all. I thought about felt, but that will live through only one use and become fluffly. I know I tested a small piece. The more the covrage the better especally for 1" square peices. Good luck. I am getting close to full covrage and it is working nicely. Also I will have all the hook peices that I need for the rest of my like.

Have you checked some of the cheaper cloth stores? I saw one in Berkeley that had some big, 2+' diameter spools that I remembered thinking seemed quite affordable. I didn't actually write down the price though...

All that I can say is...ouch! Creating a standard masterboard was painful enough. You are a sucker for punishment but boy that will make one hell of a board

These folks do take a minimum order but they have 3/4 inch tape, 25 yards, for $8.00.



Looks like I'll be buying trim soon.

To ship 1 spool to my house is $7.34 via UPS ground.

To do a whole board would take slightly more than 1 spool, so to ship 2 spools would be $8.20.

That comes to $24.20, for 150'! That's about half of what I spent. Great price!

So, I went to check out my cart.

There's a minimum order of $65! D'oh!

Well, if there's other things you need (or if you'll be populating 7 ProMasterboards), this looks like the best price, by far!

No, no... Never mind the materials... I just bit the bullet and cleared out the local craft store, along with a stop at the Orange Nightmare for the last 15' at Name-Brand price
What are student loan refunds for, after all? Getting there 3/4" cut-by-3/4" cut... The middle section is name-brand, in order to balance-out any "differences"... Those bastards set it up side-by-side, so all my prickly bits for terrain are already cut, but I spent about an hour total cleaning the scissors with Goo-Gone to get the adhesive accumulation off... And I haven't even cut or folded a single wall...


...the fun part is at the end of the roll, trying to size-out the perfect cuts...

1,280 squares, hand-cut to 3/4", at roughly 80+ feet of "fuzzy" total... Time to lay something out on the old graph paper (32x40 fits almost perfectly on a single sheet of 5-squares-per-inch quad-ruled), and start BUILDING!!! (Maiden finish might have to wait a bit...)

Oh, and heaven forbid I would forget to include credit for the little "helper" that added his "signature" to one of the corners when I wasn't looking...

That looks really good Sharky, a heck of a lot of work, but will provide a sweet board!!!!
