I build along the same order at Spoo (posted above), tho sometimes I get excited and glue before edging...!

It is a good model to follow, especially if you are new at this type of modelling--something I still consider myself as...but I am getting better/faster at it!

There's definitely no "one right way" answer here.

I find on a lot of reverse scoring needs ( e.g. the tabs on the walls of the CWU Houses) that it is much easier to cut first and then score. This way, the points where the tabs join the main walls are an excellent guide for scoring when the paper is face down.

On other models (e.g. steps on all stairways) it is much easier to mark the paper (off model) and score before cutting.

Practice will make perfect I'm sure.

OK. I'm having trouble with the reverse scoring and putting together the mill wheel. Can anyone give me some advice? I've tried it twice, and the slats just won't fit together and look right when I put them on the wheel.
Can someone give me more guidance than is in the instructions?

Is there any way you can take a picture of what you're having issues with. What issues specifically are you having with reverse side scoring? Did you watch the video tutorial and or read the Beginners Guide? What aspects of that would you like further clarity on? I'm having a tough time visualizing what the problem is with your current description. Maybe just a little more info and we can work from there.

Kepp in minid that as the wheel paddle-slats get glued down, the side tabs overlap each other and are glued one over the next.

Thanks for all the help and tips. I finally jumped back in last night and finished up my second attempt at the mill wheel.... What I was trying to wrap my head around was that the ordered half of my mind wanted all the glue tabs on the slats to go the same direction. I went through 3 or 4 iterations of the slats, trying desperately to fold them according to the arrows, but still have the glue tabs all fit the same way.

Then I looked that the instructions again, or rather, the image of the final build that came with the instructions, and I could just barely make out that the slatsweren't all going the same direction after all.

Everything went together smoothly from that point. In fact, I modified the wheel somewhat, but will post that info under the kitbash forum. It's just great having such a helpful community.
