And I'm addicted to building cardstock models. It's been, umm, 3 minutes since my last model.

Just wandered onto this site a few weeks ago (found through Boardgamegeek.com, by the way) and have become obsessed. I've already bought about six sets and my kids and I are happily printing, cutting, and gluing, and there are little cardboard doodads littering the house.

We originally started putting things together to use as scenery for Warhammer and 40K, but I've decided to do a set for one of my favorite boardgames of all time -- Swashbuckler, by Yaquinto. It's a boardgame about bar-room brawls - throwing chairs, flipping tables, swinging on chandeliers, yanking rugs out from under people. Lots of fun, and deserving of the full 3-D treatment.

Anyway, I do have a few technical questions:

1. When printing out stuff that will be mounted on foamcore, is it still necessary to print it on cardstock? Or can I just print it out of regular paper? What are the pros and cons?

2. I'd like to use the bridges from Villageworks for Warhammer, but the guys keep sliding off of them. Are there any good suggestions for something tacky that could be sprayed on or applied to the models?

I'll have to look into the Swashbuckler game you mentioned... it sounds like a lot of fun.

For your questions:

1) Cardstock or Paper
I would always say cardstock, even for the tiles. With paper, When printing on normal paper, it seems to crinkle and crease due to not coping well with the amount of ink applied to it. Plus, paper rips easily under normal circumstances, but the ink weakens it even more. Cardstock really isn't that expensive, and you will get a lot of play from your tiles.

2) Bridges and Minis
In Streets of Mayhem, Denny added little tiny bars that could be used across the slope to catch a mini just enough to stop it slipping. Personally, I haven't tried using this method, but I've heard it works okay. The alternative I went with was Aleph13's excellent kitbash for the Streets of Mayhem Pedestrian Bridge. It was an add on to turn that specific slope into steps. Now, I haven't tried assembling the Villageworks bridge yet, but You could probably kitbash it to have a step and flat surfaces rather than slopes.
