OK, so the thing is, I glue all my ground tiles into place on a sheet of MDF. This is fine, since I plan my layout ahead of time and have it in such a way that three or four basic building footprints can be rearranged as needed. But the Gas Station from BoM has a dedicated base piece, to which the various elements are attached. The problem is, that piece of cardstock (the base) is going to get beat to hell in storage and transport.

So waht i wound up doing was taking the Gas Station base, and the two sidewalk sections for the entrances, and glueing them down to a sturdy sheet of plastic (I use the big garage Sale signs available at Wal-Mart.) I left my camera in my car or else I would have posted pictures as well. Maybe tomorrow.

OK, so here we are, a Gas Station with the base pieces epoxied down on a sheet of plastic. And then a view of the underside showing how a garage sale sign can be used as a base.

looks good but what about that rounded corner, how do you hide/diminish it from standing out?

Perfect! I've always thought plasticard was cost prohibitive so I've been using illustration board for that kind of thing. Looks like you've discovered a happy medium. Its also perfect for Shellendrak Manor. I think I'll be sign shopping this week.

The only problem I have with most paper card type bases is that you get them to wet and they warp. Even some of your wood bases will do that depending on how much and how the liquid is applied. But using a plastic type card base won't give you a warp, well unless you get it really hot!

I've also consided polystyrene foam, but that's usually thicker than I want. Both what you, punkrabbitt and Denny suggest are good ideas. I gotta check out the costs involved.
