1" squares?

The Maiden of the High Seas has a usable upper deck (I use the upper deck as it is larger than the lower) that is 7 squares in width and 28 squares in length. The actual Maiden itself is longer, as the bowsprit sticks out several inches forward of the last usable upper deck square.


As a general guide, the picture below:



I believe the Maiden is sitting on a 21" x 28" rectangular base.

Not counting the bowsprit it looks like it's about 18" - give or take an inchish, from the Forecastle to the Aftcastle, deck wise.

That is a impressive kit and it looks like a much easier build than my previously considered plan... which was a plank on frame scratchbuild...

There's 13" of deck between the forecastle and sterncastle.

The Forecastle deck itself is 4" front to back, with 3" of squares in front of the forecastle before the bowsprit begins.

The Sterncastle deck actually extends 8" front to back, though 4" of that is a narrow section that sticks out a ways (with broad steps to either side).

8" Sterncastle, 13" upper deck, 4" Forecastle and 3" forward of that for a total of 28" of deck with usable squares.

I really need to build another. One has gone kaput and another vanished away entirely (my Steam Maiden... ). I also had to abandon a partial build when I moved last year.

The thing dominates a table quite well, and some day I would like to have two of them facing off. Still my favorite of all the WW kits, though a daunting build.
