I adapted the angle supports for the underside of the wooden fort tower tops, to work for the wall sections, after finding the walls tended to fall forward, with mini's standing on them. I prefer my walls free-standing, for modularity, and I really didn't want the larger supports, on the outside of the wall sections -- that is what the enemies would go after, since knocking down the wall supports, would cause the walls to fall down. By cutting the lower angles off of the small supports, they looked like mini-versions of the larger supports used to brace the bottoms of the towers, only smaller, and much less noticeable on the finished wall sections. They hold the wall sections upright, very well, even when moving figures on the wall catwalks.
I also noticed the the catwalks put my 25mm-30mm figures up so that their knees were at the tops of the walls! I want my figures to be shoulder-height with the tops of the wooden walls, so they will have plenty of cover to hide behind. This was accomplished by cutting the catwalks off at the second rung of the ladders, on the sides, up from the bottoms, BEFORE gluing them to the wall sections. This puts the figures' shoulders at the tops of the wall sections, which is where I prefer them to be. I haven't figured out how to do this with the gate, but that is a minor problem.
For a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, I trimmed off the textured tabs on the ends of the wall sections. This allows them to be butted against towers, and each other, without any problems. They can be weighted with pennies, or even paper clipped together, for added stability. Cheers!
I'd love to post some pictures, but my scanner is broken. I just got back some photo's from my last game, evil hordes besieging the forces of good guys in their castle, a la CastleWorks. Some of the photo's turned out really nice, showing some of the summoned elementals ripping through the forces. It was a fun game, and the castle really looks s-w-e-e-t!
The next battle will be the forces of good attacking a port city, and docks, where the evil receive trade goods (Skull Cove, baby!). I've also got a battle in a pine forest, between Hobgoblins, in a wooden fort (Skull Cove, baby!), with grass roofed huts, within. They will be defending against Dwarven Ram Cavalry (watch out for those pit traps -- the ones covered with cloth, and pine needles, you know, the ones you can't possibly detect until you pull a face-plant in the bottom of the pit?...).
The really neat thing about the Dwarves and Hobgoblins, is that I designed this scenario more than a year before I ever heard of WorldWorks Games! I drew up the map of the wooden fort, and grass huts, more than a year ago, as part of my RPG campaign, with the idea of playing it out, as a battle, on the tabletop, after I finish painting my Dwarven Cavalry. WWG just happened to supply me the fort, and huts! Denny and Company saved me many hours of converting paper bird houses from Michael's Hobby Store, along with a plastic fort I got off of e-Bay (would require hours of work to make it work, but now I made an even better fort, with Skull Cove!). Cheers, Denny!
