One tip if you can find it get an ALPs printer that can actually print on clear decal stock. I know most printers can do that but the nice thing about it is it can print white and metallics. I have used it on decal paper but have yet to print on transparencies. The old Roland PC-12 or PC-60 can also and it can also cut (because its also a vinyl cutter). Either way getting a hold of one of those printers may be cost prohibitive for you.

I have used both the Roland and ALPs and they are good printers but sadly to say they are both out of production.

Some tech stats:

ALPS
Good:ok quality (good for decals)
Bad: the transfer is made of wax ink you will need to spray fix the decal before actually sliding them. No longer made you will need to find one on ebay, even then if there is damage to the head you will get streaking - buyer beware -

Roland
Good: very good quality, the piezo electric transfer system is great (will not rub off), it will print on almost any stock, It can also cut or score stock, since it was made for vinyl cutting.
Bad: Even when it was brand new this printer cost several thousand dollars, (It still holds its value). Although if you do manage to find one there are almost all refurbs with a warranty, if you do find one, make sure you see it print! Once again a good knock on the printer head will screw the alignment and it will be worthless.
