Ok, I'm preparing to get a printer for Wormhole and printing general boardgame accessories. I've looked through a bunch of the forum stuff, but there are issues I have that aren't addressed on any of them or lists that aren't complete with all the printer mentioned elsewhere (like the accuracy thread).

1) Good quality prints - doubted it even needed to be said, but just throwing it on for completeness.

So, in addition to good quality prints, here's things I'm looking for:

2) Cardstock capable. - My current printer will take thicker stock if I apply a little pressure to the end of the paper. I really don't want to stand around and apply pressure to the ends for a bunch of pages, so it's time to get a printer that can pick up cardstock and coverstock without problems and assistance.

3) Accurate - Since I'm going to fold some of this stuff, it would need to line up to reduce gaps and other problems. So I'm looking for a printer that doesn't have accuracy problems as far as anyone knows.

4) CIS capable - I'd like to make my printing cheaper. The one we have is nice, but after a little boardgame accessory printing project I'm almost at the need to buy new ink. I'm looking for something that I can buy a CIS after the starting ink the printer comes with runs out.

5) Motionless ink cartridges - Because of the CIS that I'm hoping to get eventually, I'd like it if the ink cartridges don't move. I don't want to worry about the tubes of ink getting caught or pulled because they're in the wrong place.
Maybe someone with a CIS in this configuration can tell me if this is an issue I should worry about or not.

I thought the K550 fit the bill, and it does, but then I've read a bunch of bad reviews about the printer heads going bad and it miss-feeding paper. Even though Denny doesn't have a problem, I figured it wasn't worth the possible hassle that a lot of others have run in to.

Filtering the accuracy list with the CIS systems at macroenter.com I get Pixma iP6600D and Pixma iP4200. But Cannons have the cartridges in the head of the printer. Again, I'm not sure how much I should worry about my issue #5.

EDIT: I guess I don't have to stick to ink. So, I'll put Brother HL-4040CN in for the running since Denny seems to address most of my points . Anyone with this have any comments? What does the cost come out to per page? I saw some of the CIS systems drop it down to under a dime per page.

For lasers, I would have:
4) Doesn't flake - Saw that some of the toner for laser printers flake after scored and folded.

5) N/A

On the tube moving thing for CIS, it can be an issue but if you get a printer with a fairly open top (ie not to much "Cool" plastic) it's less of an issue. I have had 1 of my tubes basically fatigue through but it took 8 months and the other 5 are fine. Due to the way the CIS works if the tubes do snap they don't go into free flow (at least mine don't).

If you can afford it though the new lasers sound like the way to go, i think the best I do with my CIS + paper costs is about 8-10cents per page for a standard WWG print, not counting the cost of the printer. But I have no complaints about my CIS or color reproduction or printing issues.
