I've been working intermittently on The Maiden of the High Seas. It's a great set and one I've wanted since I first found WorldWorks Games. Tonight I was starting to put the masts together and came up with a little trick I think may be helpful for other Maiden newbies. I usually work with foamcore and save unusual bits and offcuts of foamcore while I'm working. I happened to have the hexagonal pieces of foamcore that you get when you make your cuts through the deck for the bases of the mast sitting on my cutting mat as I was assembling one of the masts. With a little trimming the offcut fit perfectly into the base of the mast, adding a little strength and making the base a little more finished in appearance. Here's a pic:

Wow that's a great little tip. I never realized the deck cuts were so close to the mast diameter but that would make sense wouldn't it Cool!

Please share pics when you're done. I love seeing the Maiden built.

Thanks, Denny, I will definitely put up some more pics when I'm done. I did a few other little things for this build, like bashing some planking with deck supports for the bottom side of the deck pieces, ala Thoumont, and bashing some planking for the bottom of the hull, and some edging for the foamcore for the various deck pieces. This has been a fun build.
