Yeah I found it VERY difficult to get the proper stuff here in the UK compared to the States where it was very easy to get the equipment I needed.

I tend to purchase all my stuff on line and in bulk as its cheaper in the long run. I can't belive how insane the paper products and foam board cost is in the Oxford area.

I find PVC board cheaper and stronger (although harder to cut and you can not edge it with marker only enamel paint) than foam board here in the oxford area. I purchase mine

I go to art stores for the Stylus and markers to score and edge my stuff and Stationary store to get my glue. And although they carry a wall of UHU products none of them are the famous Office Glue Pen that Denny uses and they have always been unfriendly about even trying to concider ordering it in for me.

Pretty much the same for me though up till now I had been buying all the card from staples (packs of 50 sheets in the crafty-type section) and the foamboard from a student art supplies shop in the middle of Birmingham.

Must save those links and start looking at ordering foamboard more cost-effectively as I have started to re-do a lot of my mayhem buildings in foamcore to eliminate any risk of warping.

Still not found the perfect glue and have settled on Pritt Power Gel - trick is getting used to using just enough to minimize any warping.

Just to let you know you MUST use contact cement to adhere paper to the PVC board if you use it.

Definitely strong enough especially if you are patient and let the double folds dry well under a book for a bit.

The key is not using too much glue and make sure you invest in one of those craft roller thingys. I bought one at the local garden centre in their craft shop section - it's a roller designed to have a pattern cut out of it and used to decorate book covers I think, but works really well for ensuring the glue is spread evenly.

Some of the smaller items I have made using 160gms card with very good results.

ive been making a few things out of 160gsm, vehicles and such and they have worked fine. i find the bigger the creation the stronger card i need.

from what my broter tells me 250gsm should be about right, strong enough to be rigid and thin enough to go through a printer, although he did warn that different types of paper will be varying thickness even with the same gsm (grams per square meter).
