I spend 95% of my day in Photoshop. I find that if you rely too heavily on 3-D rendering programs things can come out very flat and lose all character. The same can hold true for pure photographic texturing. It can look “fake” or out of place some how. You'll get more character and consistency out of your work by using photography for reference only and instead relying on more classical methods to create your textures. Textures suddenly “pop” and are more pleasing to the eye when you treat them like you would treat a painting. I much prefer to build my textures from scratch in Photoshop. I use a stylus as well for airbrushing and generally working in a more organic way.

I was a graphic artist prior to getting involved in WorldWorks and did everything from comics to mural painting. All of those odd jobs and the techniques I learned along the way have really helped me to find my groove here but…I have so much more to learn!
