I'm looking to buy myself a CIS printer- not just for WWG stuff, since I do a lot of other color printing, though I'd be a liar if I said WWG wasn't my primary motivator.

It's a huge investment, though- I'm worried that I might end up with a CIS-enabled printer that's one or two millimeters off.

What's the current word on the best CIS printer you can lay hands on nowadays?

Check out what home business photographers are using. They are very keen on accuracy, quality, and keeping costs down. That's where I learned a lot of neat things about printers and CIS.

Really though; in this day and age you shouldn't tolerate ANY printer being 1-2mm off. Even crappy, cheap, printers aren't that far off.

The Printer accuracy list is what really scares me. Particularly, the size of the Not Accurate list.

From the checking I've done on Macrocenter (I think that's the name of the CIS site Denny Unger suggested) none of the printers on the Accurate list have CIS systems available.

After exhaustive research, I ended up going with a Canon Pixma ip4700.

I LOVE IT SO HARD.

It's got 5 individual ink tanks, and after some searching on EBay, I don't even intend to bother with a CIS for it. I can get OEM ink carts, chipped, for like 3 bucks apiece or cheaper.

The ink lasts, too- I've gone through a whole ream of cardstock and have only just now got notification that I'm running low on cyan. The paper feeds smoothly from a rear try with no page curl. I can put upwards of 30 sheets in at a time and haven't gotten any jams. Also, it's accurate.

The downside, however, is that lighter colors do come out a little lighter than they should. You'd only really notice it next to something printed on a laser printer. That might be because I'm printing on basic settings rather than High Quality.
