How many prints did you get for $25 ?

I don't have that set so I don't know how many total prints that would be if you printed 1 of each.

Do you get to choose paper type?

That's why I bought a laser printer (Brother 4070CDW, new for $400 on sale at Staples a few weeks ago).

On my initial toner carts, based on cost of printer + cardstock, it should cost me an avg 30c/page (excluding however many B&W prints I get from it). After my first set of high cap toner replacements I think I should get it down to 17c/page (again, including cardstock cost).

After reading this again I thought I should preface it... this is more of a documentation of me thinking out loud. I wanted to see if this service would actually be worth it for me to use even though I have my own printer. I'm not trying to convince anyone that this service is good or bad; I just wanted to find out if I thought it would work for me...

Just doing some quick math.... I get about 150 pages per ink cart so .28 cents * 150 is $42.00 Full set of ink carts is $30 and that's even expensive HP ones (could buy 3rd party ink for cheaper or CIS to really drive down the cost over time). Then add in the cost of 150 pageps of 110 lb cardstock for about $6.00 (250 sheets at $13.00). That puts me at $36 to print 150 myself at a quality I am very pleased with. The initial price of the printer was $90 (which included a full set of ink carts); so after 9 'runs' you would make up that $90 (now that's a lot of printing (1350 pages) but point is you can make up the cost of the printer itself)

I'd also say my printer is a PIG with ink; 150 pages per cart is pathetic to say the least. Printers with better ink consirvation would come out further ahead. I don't slight the company for charging .28 a sheet; they have to make money on the deal and just looking at these numbers they aren't operating on much of a margin!

However there is value in your time and convinence. I've spent a lot of time setting up, maintaining, and using my own printer. Would be very sweet to just stop buy and pick up, say, 300 pages that I didn't have to print myself. 300 pages would entail me swaping all ink carts at least once and paper many times because it only holds about 75 sheets at a time. Actually what would happen with the ink is I'd end up swaping carts often because they are not consumed at an even rate; so magenta will run out first (stop and replace), then 50 pages later yellow will run out (stop and replace), finally cyan will run out (stop and replace), then black will run out (stop and replace), now we are probably back to magenta again by the time black is gone =P In the mean time paper would be running out at it's own rate.... I would end up baby sitting the printer a long time for 300 pages. I usually only do 25-50 or so pages at a given sitting.

Ok that's enough for the cost benefit analysis of this service vs DIY. I can only say this is an analysis of my own circumstances. People have different printers and value their time differently. I'm also not exactly a math guru so if you see something wrong point it out! =)

I haven't tried them yet but I estimate I can get my per page cost down to around 20-25 cents. the cheapest I can do it locally is around 42 cents and they don't promise to be any faster.
