I've been using a laser (Xerox Phaser) to do all my prints for my sets (Arena Works, Chunky D.vol1, and now CWU). And I've never had any problem with
the color flaking off on 110lb GP CardStock. (Make sure you have the heat
setting turned up. And set for "Heavy Stock" media.) The print is both clean and
durable. (alot less chance of ink smear that you get with Ink Jet)

I use both an Xacto and a burnisher(for making score lines) and have not had
any problems with folds. the only thing to consider is that on small details and
folds, the paper can be very rigid and actually peal or separate where you score
and fold. In this situation I try to coax the fold gently. Folding it little by little.

I get alot of milage out of using a Laser Printer. But Yes its expensive, more expensive than an ink jet. And the cartridges are expensive. But where you would replace the carts about 10x I will still have not gone through one set of laser carts. I get a prorating of about 5000 sheets at medium coverage before a change is required.(I use the large capacity toner carts)

The only other minus with a laser is that it's color is not quite as vibrant as
an Inkjet prints on coated paper tend to look.

Try using supplies: I've had great success with them, and the cost of refilling my Lexmark cartridges has been: $3/black, $5/color. The refills work as well as the OEM, as long as I refill them quickly after they empty -- if you don't, the ink will dry within the jets, ruining them. You must also run the "cartridge cleaning" routine, to clear the jets.

Buy the full, "refill kit", initially, to get all the required tools. Then, just buy the ink bottles -- save the hypadermic needle!

To give you the requested information... A color laser printer, can come in two varieties of ink: solid (wax), and toner (very small granules of colored plastic, melted to the paper, once deposited via static electricity). They both have their advantages, but toner, for our purposes, is better. The printer will run you around $800 - $2,000. Make sure it will handle card stock! Many will not... The Toner Cartridges will run you around $80-$130/cartridge -- you'll need four different cartridges: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. On top of these, you will periodically need to replace the photo-transfer drum (life-span of 5,000 pages, at 5% coverage): $200-$450, depending upon the printer. There are other consumables, but I think this gives you an idea of what to expect.

As stated previously, you should average around 5,000 pages, with 5% coverage (a typical, 10-point typeface, sheet of text, double-spaced), per toner cartridge. Note that WWG printouts will average around 85%-95% coverage, per page.

If you have several thousand dollars to spend on a hobby printer, or you can justify it for other reasons, go for it! Otherwise, try another refill company's products. If your ink-jet printer is acting up, go to Wal-Mart, and pick up a Lexmark Z-series printer, for around $50. I have a Z23. They handle card stock like a champ, they produce high quality output, they're inexpensive, but they are thirsty... Hence the refill kits. Cheers!
