Hi! I'm a newcomer to papercraft dungeoneering. I recently bought the Dwarven Kings set and here's my very slow progress so far...



I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, what scoring tools do you guys recommend? I tried using my boxcutter but that obviously leaves an unsightly white line on the fold (I guess edging would help), I also tried using an embossing tool of some sort (it is like a pin with a metal nub at the end) but when I fold the paper it sometimes tears a little bit. You can see the ugly white lines on the tile edges in my photos. It's also very hard to measure where to score using this tool since the nub is a bit big.

Just wondering if you guys have any tips/tool recommendations?

Also, I noticed in LHotDK, the "anchors" pdf contains 4 edge anchors and 8 corner anchors per large tile. As far as I can tell you only need 4 edge and 4 corner ones right? The other 4 corner ones are just spares?

I've tried several scoring tools, and I've finally found one I like. I've been very satisfied with it for months now. A standard wood awl. I go mine a dollar store, but any hardware store would have one.

The key to using it is to hold it almost horizontal. that keeps it from ripping the paper. It gives a real nice fine compression score.

Edging. It's all about edging.

And yes, those are spares.

I do not make shallow cuts for scoring. I use some crocheting needles that I have encased in wood handles to make shallow indentations in the card along the score line. It allows a nice crisp fold without exposing the underlying white card.

There is also a commercial embossing tool available with two different sized tips.
