Excuse me if this is a daft question, but it's getting late and I've already downed a couple of glasses of Chablis, so the old brain cells aren't firing too well.

The Mayhem traffic lights come in left- and right-hand pairs. Now either WW have thoughtfully provided a version especially for us Brits, or the American road system uses pairs of lights in some way.

The former seem unlikely, and I just can't figure out the configuration for the latter.

Can somebody en-lighten me? Preferably with illustrations...?

LOL! I don't need to know how they light up! The paper models don't light up (not even after this much wine). I just need to know where the left-hand lights are supposed to go.

Actually, from the few states I've been to, I've only seen vertically aligned lights, with the red at the top.

Personally, I'd 'bash 'em for my own use.

I've never seen horizontal lights in the US, but just because I haven't seen them, doesn't mean they're not there (and if that's not scary all by itself... ).

Macon GA has Lights with the Red on the Left and Green on the right.

I learned this first hand being RED GREEN Color blind. I was used to Vertical (RED on TOP, if it's lit you stop!). But this threw me for a loop and cost $3k USD to my Parents Car (I was 17 at the time).

Yes, the red is on the left, green on the right! It gets really flakey when they add in the yellow/amber turn arrow as well on those left turn lights. Not to far from my house is one that's really flakey. Here's the light layout IIRC.

Here (centralish Texas) they seem to be [Green+GreenArrow] [Yellow] [Red] or they put the Green arrow to the left of the solid green (these are still green yellow red LtoR).

But I only see these horizontal lights at intersections with protected-left turns and nearly all intersections have vertical (green on top) light sets instead.

I have also seen intersections with an extra green arrow or green light set off to the left side where cars further back can see it.

So, to answer your question, LostEarthMother, the US is a mish-mash of conflicting standards and interests, and no one bothers to teach anyone what the other states do.

Also, the traffic lights are messed up, too.
