Caravans!
I suggested a caravan traders' wagons ages ago.

Hauling lumber, logs, big sturdy wagons for hauling heavy things, Light hauling, covered wagons (hard sides like the old patent medicine types, or canvas like the covered wagons of the west) for dry goods, Hauling grains, livestock, housing wagons, like the gypsy wagons or more utilitarian, payroll/weapons wagon, funeral wagon, army wagons...comercial carriages, private carriages, vendor wagons...(jewelers, tinkers, traveling blacksmiths, medicine makers, surgeons)
some in normal designs, elven artful delicate design, gypsy colorful, somber professional, or dwarven sturdy, even odd mechanical contraptions that gnomes might have comeup with...

Tents, campfires, cookware,....Caravans can be from 5 to 20 or more wagons traveling together for safety, you know. A moveable village.

River crossings aren't only bridges, but gravel or planked wet fording areas, too. Fallen trees to block the way, muddy wet roads to get stuck in, pulloffs along the roads to allow for overnight stays, passing caravans, bandits in the trees lying in wait...

I've wanted to do a caravan guarding adventure for ages. And I'm afraid I'm babbling now...Sorry.

One thing that might look pretty dramatic on the table would be a bridge over another road..make it nice and multilevel. It might not be the most sensibly fantasy thing to insist on, though.

Somehow, when I think road trip, I think sheep. Folds and all. I blame Wyoming.

Maybe a skinny lookout tower or watchpost?

Like in the upper right corner?


As for the lookout tower, how about the tree hut from swamp lands?
