I like your ideas Arabin and DeltaIce. I think I may have found a solution that goes in the direction that you both seem to be thinking toward. But first, let's talk about the constraints. There are 2 teleporters and for practical reason I will consider that the whole 2x2 inch square (as shown in dotted red lines in the tile below) is a single move square. That said, we need to implement some access constraint to the teleporter just like in the original tile. You see with the green arrow where we shall be access the teleporter from, access from the cells with cross orange arrows must be impossible. That way we make sure that our building options are not distorting the gameplay. |

Well, this is what turned out. The build is not great, but at least it can serve as proof of concept.The teleport machine is a 2by2 in props with an hexagonal transparent. The transparent is open in such a way that the access to the inside of the teleporter are possible only from the right cells as shown above. The trick is that there is another transparent chamber inside that can be pulled from the roof of the teleporter. So once a teleport has succeeded the player can pull that chamber, to conveniently recover its miniature. The inside chamber can then be put back in place. |

The plastic I am using is a rather thick one which is sold as transparent cover for reports. It cannot be printed on. I have found also some printable plastic, but these tend to be thinner/softer and may prove to be not rigid enough for this kind of model. Note that transparent can be scored for getting a clean fold just like cardboard. Well, I have finished building 2 teleporter props today and the hard part for this module is behind us. However, the module completion will have to wait for my return as I am leaving off-country for a week. Shortly after that trip, I will dump a few pics of the completed module. And then we will need to start thinking about the Helm module. |

I hope the recovery goes well. I'm glad you have access to professional help. When my computer crashed a couple months ago I had to try fixing it myself. In the end I had to restore it to factory conditions using recovery disks. I lost all my files. Not that I had any work stuff on it. Or even my creations. Just some data documents, tons of pics, all my saved games, and music. But even after months I still haven't restored everything. And I had some useful reference pics that would have been really helpful for my WW stuff. Since then I've been backing up my WW and kitbashes to jump drives. But I still cannot back up my photos, they're just too big. But that reminds me I need to back up all my sketchup stuff too. |

Pixy Frog any word on how the hard disk recovery is going? It must have totally sucked in a very sick feeling when you realised. I got an 80gb external drive (about the size of a pocket bible - I haven't a clue what make me think of that) which I have all my games folders (including cardstock) photos and other bits on it. This is the third redundancy as I have a second harddrive in my computer mirroring those files too.... plus having all the photos on my ipod (I think my cardstock folder is there too). Thanks for all your message of support, I have now recovered a fully working computer and all my important files have been savaged. This has been a good warning! So back to work... should be able to finish the teleporter module today. |

So back to work! I addition to the teleporters, I need 2 props with a 'L' shape to cover 3 squares in the corner each, as in the original tile. I have reused the Vac Suit cabinet from FL Retrofit, this time modifying it to the appropriate L shape foot print. I know, I have used this prop in the past in the Life Support Module. But it made sense. In the game, you have the possiblity to be teleported in the big vaccuum. Having a Vac Suit could be handy i those circumstances. So here is the bird view of the completed tile: And here the props once mounted in the box. Note that the inside of the teleporter is assumed to be a single move cell, so the layout of the original is respected. This was one of my favourite threads to watch last year... and I was eagerly anticipating the kitbashes being released, and seeing the progress of the modules being made. Will we ever see more? Will anymore be released as kitbashes? Arabin |
