So, I got the Friar, and am LOVING it. I decided to work on a side project to all I am doing for my Pathfinder game, and do a small church, that had been converted into a tavern. Attaching the TLX Planner Files. One of the things that I decided I wanted to do right off the bat, that neither Thoumonts nor The Friar had, was a steeple. The elevated tower would be easy to accomplish with three 3"x3" floors on top of the base. The roof of the steeple would need to be kitbashed. So I have bashed up one. I've printed it off and put it in my stack of things to assemble when I get a chance. It uses the same texture as the Friar's roof, but is designed as a 'stretched' pyramid. I'm not sure how it is going to work in practice. I may have to go revisit the Cathedrae to see how it was accomplished there. Pics of the assembly to come! |

I can't wait to see what you come up with. I've sketched out some ideas for these type of roof cap pieces that would fold flat for storage, but I'm nowhere near trying to build some yet. I was wondering how well the Shellendrak roof pieces collapse and work with TLX... I've been toying around with making some custom tiles and rail pieces for Thoumont's (though I have been focusing on the curved tiles thing lately), and part of the project was trying to come up with other roof pieces that fold flat but work with TLX... |

While waiting for my code to compile at work, I broke out a couple pages from last year's daily cat calendar and mocked up a system for making some roof pieces that could fold flat, but easily form some more interesting roof lines. I rough-cut four triangles and taped them together. In reality, I assume I'll be able to either cut this all out of a single sheet of cardstock, or if I can get get a two-ply piece off of one sheet, I'll design it so it's half on one page, half on another and have a tab to glue them into one piece. I added a couple pieces that look a lot like the tabs that are on the sides of the Terrainlinx walls.The idea is that these would fold inward, and I'd slide a cardstock piece over them to lock them together. Here it is assembled: Nothing radical, but it does make me believe I should be able to make more roof pieces that fold flat, but let me cap off different types of tiles. I will make a full scale 3" tile-based roof out of cardstock to night to see how it would really fit. |

mine is a similar idea, but wouldn't open all the way up to fold flat, it would just squash down flat. |

So, doing some more work, I have bashed up the spiral staircase I was thinking of. I am attaching a couple pictures of the prototype. It actually turned out pretty good for my first go round. I have a couple adjustments I need to make, but for a first crack, it turned out well. The idea is that the back wall would slot into two posts, which would anchor it in place. |

I'm liking it very much, but I'm wondering... what about lowering the first step and either 1) reducing the number of steps and keeping them wide enough for figure bases, or 2) leaving an open vertical space at the bottom of each step riser, so that figure bases can slide between like SwampWoods Village do. Then would these stair units be stackable in a clockwise fashion of TLX support on higher levels? Some thought would have to be given to the corners, as the lowest corner of a higher stair unit might cover the highest corner of a lower stair unit. Perhaps they could be made diagonal if the open vertical space in the risers is used? |

These appear to be standard TLX stairs so they already have a space built in to accommodate mini bases. |

Interesting Idea on the stacking. If you under cut the base of the stairs fro spiraling up levels, I would try to use anti-warp walls for the extra strength. |

They are TLX stairs, they are undercut to accomodate figures already. Well, except for the first one. Using anti warp walls, I would need to get rid of the top step, or have the anti warp part on the outside. I don't think it is needed. I did try this in a building, and it is a little tight fit if you double slot a wall on either side. I may see about chopping off a hair on each side to make it fit better....also need to reinforce the 'back'wall on the top step...I only did one layer of cardstock there and the tab ripped off... They are stackable....As the stairs are attached to the wall....one stair would go with it's wall at the north position. The next level's stair would go with it's wall at the south position. The bottom step of the second set would but up to the top step of the lower set. I have to check it and see how it works in practice. In theory it works. I may add an additional undersupport to support the upper set of stairs. It will involve some interesting geometry, though. |

OK, so coming back to this build after a while. I finished up the walls I needed finishing. I still need to work on the spiral stairs, to get them to look good when stacked., and then need to work on a partial floor so the stairs can come up through them... Roof should be done today. Will post pics tonight or tomorrow. |

finally some pictures including the spiral staircase installed. It's not a huge build, but it is a start. With the double height walls from the old west set, I may have to bash some up, pull in the stained glass windows from the Cathedrae Noctus, add in the scond level. THe steeple looks good. It was super easy but looks really good. |

Nice little build. Now, do my eyes decieve me, or are you using a 12" hallway? Question based on seeing a string of T-post anchors near the bottom of one of the pics. Are you a fan of long walls? |

hey pilgrim. When I first started building TLX, in order to make the scenes I wanted to play in a short timeframe, I made several 3"x12" and 6"x12" boards, just to get started. I actually also have a 18" x 24" board made up, as it was much faster than making up 12 6"x6" squares. Now that I have progressed, I prefer the normal 6"x6", 3"x6" and 3"x3" pieces, for modularity sake, but occasionally make and use 12"x12" sections for generic boards. |

I hear you there. WIP of a 'concrete' 36"x48" presentation board of black foamcore for my spaceport/airport settings. TLX notches along one short and one long side for further options later. |

the one issue I have with the large sheets of foamcore is the warping. I store it with heavy stuff on it between games and it still warps. |

one of the guys in my Pen and Paper group is making some stuff for his game, and he is using 12x12 1/4" hardboard It doesn't warp, but it doesn't allow for linking it all together. We'll be playing with this this weekend, so I will report back on how it works. I'm going to look and see if they have 12"12 tiles that snap together like laminate flooring... |
