As for crenellation, I would suggest wall type crenellation, which would be compatible with curved crenellation. If you go railing type, it would means having round floors with tabs for railings....

@ZenGuy: Oh I agree curved crenallations will be tricky... but curved railings all the more so because of having to deal with sliding the tabs into the floortile as you're bending it around. But I wish the best of luck!...uh, skill?

I've been monitoring this thread with considerable interest. I should also mention I have been prototyping some round elements of my own for TLX. Nothing solid yet mind you, nothing substantial, pre-pre-beta stuff. I'll be very interested to see what choices you make, they could be influential going forward.

It's taking ages to make progress... I managed to get all kinds of sick. Now that I'm healthy, my wife is all kinds of sick. The kids... they seem to always demand more attention when you only have 10% of your energy...

I feel like I've made a million pieces, and still nothing is quite finished. I need a ton of anchors and posts and walls to finish up the rounded towers...

I absolutely love what you've converted so far. Fantastic! I hope you find the time to complete it.
I switched to terraclips because I couldn't make enough time to finish enough of my TLX builds. Well done.

Trying not to completely stall out while life gets in the way. I had to take the castle down so my wife could reclaim the dining room. It's probably for the best - looking at it was always overwhelming. I'll make something on a smaller scale just so I can try out some things without feeling like I need to make a dozen of EVERYTHING.

Anyway, change of pace. I thought I'd take a few minutes to try out converting the building walls. Here are some sample shots of 6" walls:





I've tried to avoid scaling the original textures at all, but I want to keep some of the original details. The original walls are MUCH larger than the TLX format, so something's gotta give. My liberal use of the clone tool doesn't seem too bad though, does it?

For example, I had to remove some of the metal pieces from the exterior of the wall when the door/window were there. But, it worked out OK. Also, I didn't scale the railing, and I pieced together the peeling wall areas. I think they are pretty true to the original. There are some challenges with the door (the original doesn't fit on a TLX wall) and with some of the other window styles, but I'll keep plugging away. I think, ideally, I'll have maybe three different 6" walls, and four different 3" walls.

For posts, I'll try to retain the nice corner stone texture on the walls. It's somewhat comforting to think that I'm only doing regular height walls here - no double-height angular curved blah blah blah...

After I get these done, I'll try to convert the roof!

I lied! I really wanted to try out as many of the textures as I can, as quickly as I can. I hope tonight to actually print and assemble a roof or two:





I am interested in seeing how the pieces will look in the trusses, since it's likely the textures won't line up all that well. It might not be noticeable at all.

I printed out a couple roof pieces and small trusses, and two 6" walls. This gives me some idea of what these pieces will ultimately look like:



I almost think the tiles look too large for the scale of the building. I might have to try another printing after scaling the tiles down some to see what I like better. Still, I think they look pretty Ok.



This is another 6" wall. I like how the walls came out - they look really nice assembled. I totally am looking forward to doing some with transparencies!



Here you can see the small truss piece. The posts and 3" walls were just Himmelveil Streets pieces I had close by. I think they (the bashed CWU pieces) are going to look really nice once I get some more wall textures done.

I can't remember the exact name of the tiles you're using, but they are about 2 to 3 times bigger than they should be. The basic texture's fine, though you'll want to grunge up the final 'wall' piece for each one to make them mesh with the buildings more as well.

I had printed these out using the textures as they appear in the original CastleWorks Ultimate set. When my 10-year-old saw them this morning, his reaction (without any prompting) was "Uuh... yeah... they're uhh... kinda big aren't they?" So it was pretty obvious to him the scale was off.

Reducing the whole texture 50% and doing a massive cloning job to fill in the gaps came out pretty well, but I was only able to get one page printed before my continuous ink system failed to reset one of the carts. Now it thinks I'm out of yellow... I'm going to either wait for the ink guys to email me back, or wait for my wife to freak out that we can't print right now, before I break down and buy some $$$ ink.

Anyway, once I get some pieces glued up, I'll post an updated pic.

No no, the roof. When I sort the pieces they're laid out like walls... so I consider them a 'wall' type piece as opposed to an anchor, base, or prop.

And by 'grunging', just add some dirt effects to the outer edges, using some color burn or darkening brushes. It's a fairly simple effect, but it does a lot to make the textures mesh into WWG's catalog better.

LOL. You know these are coming straight out of WWG's catalog, right? I'm actually not so sure I need to add grime to the roof - I think there might not be a lot of bang-for-the-buck, given all the other pieces that need work.

I would do it for you, but I don't have the set the tiles were on. (Sorry, I thought you had custom made these and didn't realize the roof tiles were in another set). Really, it's not a lot of work, though, just a quick brushing around the edges of the parts. (I feel like I should say "Bob's Your Uncle" here, but I 'm not entirely sure what that means.)

I wonder if you got hit by the resolution change between TLX and earlier sets?
