Okay, going to go ahead and start this thread up, at this point to put my own thoughts together and to solicit thoughts from others. I've done a huge amount of custom and kitbashing work on the existing Mayhem Mall, but I'm more and more concluding that's it's past time to look for another approach. The existing set has a lot of amazing to it, but it's pretty clear that it's time to look at version 2.0. The existing setup has some limitations. The older-style walls are prone to warping (particularly for the heavy use of 6" walls). Fronts and backs of walls have to be glued together from different pages. Distortion creeps in more and more as the builds get larger, etc. Also, a lot of mall stores are really minor variations of one another, with differences in wall tiles, floor tiles, and sineage, more than anything else. Manuel's, for instance, could be able to be made slightly more generic so that it's components could be somewhat duplicated to create other clothing stores. The specifics of the artwork, as good as it is, actually wind up limiting the use of each store to JUST that store... There is also, of course, the issue of brining the DPI of the product from 200 to 300, as well as cleaning up some aspects of the art to, again, make the set more usuable for a wider array of projects. (Again, a mall is a great modern combat setting, and not just when zombies are around.) My thought here is to, obviously, start working on a TLX conversion of the mall with all that in mind. I'm going to look at a set of hall pieces first and one of my kitbash stores and see how things flow. Ideas are more than welcome for this thread as I plod along! |

Walking through a few local shopping malls, It, interesting that most of the walls and fronts are the same but with different doors. They all contain glass (transparencies). It's just the advertising behind the glass that makes the shop. Maybe a design of the glass wall in various sizes with different doors that and be made into 3" and 6" walls. there are quite a few stores without glass frontage but sliding doors or roller doors. Most side and back walls are just advertising places. Your props that are free standing, maybe do not need any work. What would, possibility be helpful, is a way to put the "shop name" into a blank area and we add what we need (or pinch from their web site and print out-----sorry possible copyright infringement) Anyway my Aussie 2 cents worth.
