This only involves a niche of a niche... I was working on a kitbash for The Garden that involved some custom geometry. Since I own a Silhouette SD, it's easier for me to design the geometry right in the Studio software and test cut my patterns. Once I had things correct, I wanted to bring my cutfile lines into GIMP and create the images for my PDFs. I wasn't sure how to do that, but here's what I ended up doing: 1) I selected my shapes and applied a solid fill 2) I had Studio print the cutfile using a PDF printer 3) I imported the PDF I printed into GIMP at 300dpi 4) Give the imported layer an alpha channel 5) I selected one of the shapes I wanted to turn into an outline 6) Fill the selection with BLACK (if necessary) 7) Shrink the selection by 3px 8) Delete the selected area 9) Repeat 5-8 for each shape 10) Finally, select the white background around all the shapes and delete it, assuming you want just the outlines. After all of this, I had the complex outlines of my shapes. I then went and created my dotted lines for scores, and added texture layers. If there's an easier way to get stuff out of Studio, I'd love to hear it. This wasn't too much trouble. |
