Alright, you've done it to me again! ![]() One innocent joke led to a flurry of really good suggestions, and now I have a couple sample textures for your perusal. Hedge Maze Sample Texture 1 - I think I like this one the best. But, I'm partial to more vibrant colors, typically. It'd fit well in a well-maintained castle, or a Lord's manse. Hedge Maze Sample Texture 2 - This one's a bit more muted, but would suit a not-so well-kept dungeon setting a bit better. Slightly more realistic, maybe? What do you guys think? |

I'm partial to number 2 myself. Seriously though Aleph, maybe we should think about doing a "micro-release". HedgemazeWorks? Get everyone to chime in on what other elements they would like to see included and you'de have yourself a release (or at least something to work towards). No pressure...just a thought ![]() |

Definitely #2. Just has a better range of colors. The first one is way too monochromatic. |

Hi aleph13, texture number 2 is what i prefer. If you need any help on doing this i would love to help out. For some ideas that come to mind in a hedgemaze: a fountain, benches, entrance portal with climbing plants, some waypointer signs, a door in the hedge, maybe some hedge pieces that are "bad" or diseased, some interesting things to find inside the dead ends? maybe some previous not so lucky explorer, some climbing plants inbetween the hedges, some statues (possible gargoyle). and of course all the kind of connection hedges but you are the expert in that. the "T" shape and the "X" shape and things like that. (not daring to start about diagonal connection pieces ![]() |

Number 2. The other one's green is too bright. *EDIT* Now that I see all those free textures Conaill turned you on to, I think we ought to have a few different textures for HedgeMazeWorks. And some MasterBoard tiles too. |

don't forget half height hedges, angle hedges, curve hedges and corner hedges. For other ideas you might think about the whole Alice in Wonderland scenes with the queen of hearts |

Thanks, EbbTide, you managed to find a few I hadn't seen already, and a much better picture of the Spainish Labyrinth than the one I had. ![]() |

That's some seriously funny stuff! Check out Alien in 30 seconds. I'd love to see each of the Star Wars movies in 30 seconds. Or Trek. Trek 2 would be 50% occupied by Kirk screaming "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" though. |

I made a fountain, and I'm pretty happy how it came out, but I lost the cable to download the images from my camera, argh! |

Alright! I've been quiet for a while (on this subject ![]() I can't give you any details just yet (Denny's super-busy for a bit, so have patience), but I will ask you this: When it comes to detailed geometry vs ease of build, which would you prefer? In other words (speaking purely hypothetically, of course ![]() 1. A simple, quick build, that offers a less smooth archway (2 flat faces shaped like an upside down "U", 4 flat sides, and a simple curved piece over the top). 2. A more complex build, with more angles to cut and score, and more tabs to glue, that offers a more, well, realistic arch. It would be a half torus (like a column curved into a semicircle) on two columns. Think about your choices in the past, like with CWU. Did you go for the simple or complex crenelations? The tower toppers, or towers themselves? In the past, I've seen most of you be the proudest of your builds when they were a bit more involved. Then again, I could be off my rocker! ![]() So let me know! |
Author: | longreach [ 06-30-2005, 10:49 PM ] |
Post subject: | |
I vote for the complex variant. The better the endresult looks is what does it for me. |
Author: | johnnygs [ 06-30-2005, 11:16 PM ] |
Post subject: | |
Both! Something that can be build quickly and simply, and the more complex variety for the more ambitious. Kind of like the crenelations on CWU - there are options. |

I vote for both as well. I usually use Simple for things with interiors (I do my interiors seperately using 2D), but I like doing complex exterior things. I did both types of crenelations and tower tops and such - they both look good for different purposes. ![]() |

Both. If I can only pick one, then complex. |

I prefer simple when I'm building. So even some of the complex things I've kitbashed I've tried to keep simple in construction. |
