The program I used for the geometry of the futuristic urinal ![]() There's a nice, comprehensive and well-written tutorial/manual in PDF form that I recommend you download, too. Follow along with the tute, and you'll be making fun stuff in no time. They've got a healthy community of very talented individuals, and they hold periodioc exercises that members post their creations for. Neat stuff. |

Some 3D Freeware (rated 4 to 5 out 5 stars at Versiontracker) - Maya Personal Learning Edition 6.0 (Mac, Windows) - Blender (Mac Windows, Linux) - Rotater (Mac - good for creating animated wireframe displays) - Art of Illusion (Any Java Virtual Machine with J2SE 1.4 or better) I also use Canvas by ACD (Mac, Windows) which I find to be a good and "relatively" inexpensive alternative to buying both Photoshop and Illustrator. It has some 3D capabilities, deconstructs PDF files nicely for creating component catalogs and planning tiles, opens and saves a wide variety of file formats including CAD and some 3D, can use many Photoshop and Illustrator compatible plug-ins, and much more. [See Versiontracker.com for more options and links to application sites] |

Thanks, SteveRB11! Do any of them break apart the polygons onto a flat surface? |

Illustrator is very nice for that kind of drawing. That's probably what I'll use whenever I get around to my bus stop! But you're right, it's very expensive! Yes, Canvas is another good software. Course, for a long time, it was only available on the Mac. But when I worked for them as a technical support phone rep, they were in the process of developing their Windows version. But that was quite a few years ago. ![]() Skunk Check out my fantasy campaign, Wizard Quest, a world using Wizards of the Coast’s 3.5 DnD system by visiting . I happen to have AutoDesk Inventor. It can do sheet metal designs, which I thought would make excellent templates for cardstock models. Has anyone used this software package for model design? |

I have used AutoCAD 2000 (not a small (read cheap) program, at one time considered state of the ACAD art.) to draw up several things, but I have problems using Illustrator or any other program to color in and texture the flat layouts. Unforunately, I work as a draftsman and not as a Graphics Designer/Illustrator. So I have all kinds of stuff in black and white, but no color. Anyone out there who could color my models or need help drawing up models? I should be able to help possibly. |

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out as a potentially good tool. Very easy to use, and also free. |
