As I may have mentioned a few times I use insulation board to base my rerrain when I need about an inch of thickness or more. I then glue the insulation board to either thin MDF board or foamcore. (Most recently the foamcore - the local lumber company no longer has free cutting on their particle board, and I don't have a suitable saw - but I prefer the MDF.)
Yesterday I got started back up on a stalled project, some canals and locks for Mordheim. I cut the insulation into 2'X2' blocks for a modular system. The problem is what to use for canals?
The answer was simple, I just cut the canal 9" wide, then print out the Gothic Realms sewer components, with water blue rather than effluent yellow. Cut each of the sewer parts in half lengthwise down the middle. Glue a section of water from The Maiden over the the GR water, resulting in a 7 inch wide stream of water, with the sewer walkways on either side. Glue into the gap that has been cut in the insulation board.
Because I use 24" for the tiles, and the sewers are in 7" lengths I need to add two or three spacers on a typical section, spacers include the Grand Gate frum Arena Works - which serves as a lock, some bridges, and some of the piers from Skull Cove.
On the end piece I simply widened the canal cut in the foam board, and angle the edges to foarm a shore, representing the river with yet more water from The Maiden. I then added some sand and GW flock to cover any awkward areas. The result looks like it has been there for some time. This all sounds more complicated than it is.
2 boards have now been finished, one started almost a year ago, then abandoned for a while. I may even have mentioned using the GW sewers for this before, they have been glued to the board for months...
