Gorgeous as the Maiden is, there are still a few details about the model that bug me. So I figured, why not try and fix them? Here is my first contribution... Those of you who have built yourselves a Maiden (or simply those who have had a close look at the pictures online) may have noticed there's a bit of a break in the texture of the hull planking, below and just behind the front ratlines. You can see that in the bottom left of this picture, between the ladder and the anchor: In fact, if you paste the front sidehull pieces to the fronthull pieces, you can see the abrupt transition very clearly: After some fiddling in The Gimp, I managed to match the colors in both pieces, completely smoothing out the transition: Hope I'm not breaking the rules by posting image files directly here - I made sure to keep the size sufficiently tiny to render them useless for anything but illustration purposes. Denny - let me know if you would be willing to host the corrected version... PS: I'm open for suggestions for other improvements. No guarantees that I'll get around to them, but if it's something easy enough to fix I may try do something about it... |

Hmmm, having pretty much convinced myself to run the Skull Cove/Call of Cthulhu campaign 'sometime soon' I am once again printing up another Maiden (and at least one more later...). Is there any possibility that this will make its way to the Kitbash area soon? The Auld Grump |

Hey, I am just getting into this and the Maiden will be my first model. What is the status of this? I can't find it in the kitbashing portion of the website? Did it/will it ever make it over there? |

This seems more like a patch than a kitbash - darn good one too. The texture mismatch is pretty noticeable in the pictures and must be even more obvious when you build the Maiden. The idea of having to pay for a fix like this just doesn't seem right. Pay for add ons? No problem! Pay for fixes? Doesn't seem good PR to me. |

For the record, that transition mark on the front hull is SUPPOSE to be there. It's not a mismatched texture, it's a consequence of how I envisioned them building the ship. Admittedly I don't know much about ship construction but I assumed that they would construct the front hull as a separate piece. The transition wouldn't be smooth because they had to bend all the boards to the internal curved framework on the front section. Anyway, just a heads up on my logic there. |

Prefabricated construction is a modern concept, particularly when it comes to ship building. While wooden shapes were built around a framework, the hull made up part of the structural integrity of the vessel. On small vessels it was possible for the hull planks to run the full length of the ship, so joints were not a problem. On larger ships the end-end joints between hull planks were staggered all around the hull to avoid a disasterous weakpoint caused by multiple breaks in the planks occuring in the same place (see illustration ). |
