GIMP is the solution if you work under Linux. It has recently become available under Windows as well, but some of the interface still works a little clunky IMO. The good news is that it's Open Source and under very active development, so I'm any existing wrinkles will get smoothed out soon. If you find it's not quite to your liking today, check back half a year from now... And hey, it's FREE! Can't beat that...

Paint Shop Pro is an excellent piece of software. I used that for many years before my job forced me to attemp Photoshop. At first, Photoshop seemed overly complicated compared to PSP, but after a while, it all starts clicking together. Now I find it hard to go back as I'm too used to doing things a certain way... and Photoshop is incredibly powerful. Little things like cropping images... you can set the pixel height and width (or inches) before you drag out the area... I can't even remember how I did it in PSP. I've never used Gimp, but PSP will always be my second choice (and first when finances a little tight). Arabin |

GPL doesn't restrict commersial use of software, it only puts demands on the an altered redistribution of software (any changes in the source code have to be made publicly available), be it commercial or not. The end user can use the software for any type of work, hobbyist, non-profit or commercial. That means that if for example Denny wanted to make a model i GIMP there is nothing in the GPL that restricts or puts any demands on him for doing so. |

Hey here is a question for those of you with Gimp, I can't open a pdf file and when i copy and paste a page/section it comes up either way too big or way too small. I'm tring to find something in the help file about it but so far I've had no luck. The question: has anyone else had this or a similar problem? Richard |
