Post subject: | Bughunt Variation |
When I saw Bughunt I really liked what I saw (and got it). However it wasnt quite what I wanted so I went kitbashing... What you will see is the principal of the pipes in use. But I made new supports which not only supported the pipes but also worked as braces for the corridors. I also did new pipes but to be honest any can be used. As a kit bash all this would be a few pages with these new supports but I have a couple of things left to sort, like how to deal with the outer corners. My method of construction has meant using 2.5mm (1/10th inch) mounting card as both base and side re-inforcements (expecting heavy use! also much cheapr than foamcore). I also use cereal packet card to re-inforce the supports (can just be seen) This means I dont have all the usual flasp etc which is another reason its going to take longer to do up for a release. Mist has set in around here so I cant do any more construction till that clears (unless I want warp heaven!) I have a couple of extra images showing the sort of figures that will use what in the end will be a modular sci-fi set, bit like SPace Hulk but with large corridors etc to more represent bases etc rather than space ships. I have other stuff to build thats been made enw for props, but weather is aginst me at moment so nothing to take pictures of..[/url] |

Very cool CBF, I like those arch supports, gives the hallways an even better 3D feel, it's one thing to kitbash a set, but kitbashing kitbashes takes on a whole new level. Can't wait to see more of what you plan to do with the set, keep up the good work. |

Very cool. Also, you can find plastic straws done in various colors too, so if the holepunch used is a good fit for straws, you could have green and red and blue straws/pipes. Maybe different sections of the ship have different colored pipes? Or maybe somebody could kitbash your kitbash of a kitbash, and add not only flares at the bottom but at the top of your hallway arches, so they could run one color pipe along the bottom, and another along the top? ![]() |

This is not so much a kitbash anymore but just using the same idea or concept in a different means (all parts are now new builds)... Version 2, Pipes and Covers.. Version 3, Just covers (this the easy option!) Am going to go for option 3 myself (time issues) but am going to ensure all the files to make the other options will be included |

I would think that a quick spraypaint job on plastic drinking straws would be way easier than trying to shape all those pipes. Yeah, that makes it not 100% cardstock, but considering the time factor ... ? Plus straws come in a variety of diameters, and portions of the bendy kind could be used for corners. Steve |

Just a matter of finding some, not exactly an urban area here, although the more I look at the covered method the more I like it. Allows for moure routes that bugs can use for moving around while unseen. |

Well, any grocery store except the very smalles probably has a small box of straws somewhere near the paper plates and styrofoam or paper or plastic cups. Then there are restaurants ... ask for a straw no matter what you get to drink ![]() Over here we have big store chains (Costco comes to mind) that specialize in selling things in bulk. Some people have large walk-in pantries to store lots of foodstuffs). So instead of a 16oz bottle of mustard, you get a 1 gallon jug of it (restaurants use them to refill the smaller bottles). Instead of 1 can of chili you get an 8-pack, etc. Anyway, I bought a big bag of jumbo straws (2500 of them) for maybe $10. Just a thought. Steve |

I know what you mean about bulk stock etc, and I jsut wish ilieved 30 miles from whre I am now as I could get them just by walking downthe road.. Only straws I seen locally have about 3mm diameter, and that under half what I need.. Although Have had reply from a couplf of my gaming collegues who think the covered pipe method looks even more enclosed. I hope to get some piccies of the next trial game to let all see how this setup all fits together |

Not where I got mine from but a place you can get them from.. No idea of US importer tho, not something I have to worry about (just the reverse!) |
