ok, lines from pop music videos aside, here's my latest wip, and the first built part of my mall kitbash(may be made available, if the WWG people like it ![]() this design was really a solution to the problem of the mall layout, i wanted it to be modular, each store to be built like that from MA, with open tiles in the center, but i couldn't get an entrance other than a flat piece, which wouldn't have held up to much so i came up with this little box, it's meant to sit on the edge row of an open tile, makes a more interesting entrance too i just put the mini there cos' it was on my desk, and fit the theme(she's about 26/27 mm to her eyes from the top of the base) it's a bit wavy looking due to the **** card i have at the moment ![]() it could also be used a an entrance to a "flat" that isn't so flat(which could be a good way to release it, along with the re-colored sides and a bit to go above it, so those who don't want or need a mall could use it, as well as those that do) it's currently 3 pieces, the main section an the 2 sides, but it needs to be 4: front(with the sidewalk and under-hanging bit), back: inside wall and the the bit on the other side of the overhang) and the 2 sides(the door handle thingies need flipping too, dunno why i flipped them in the first place ![]() edit: here's a few pics that'll show you the idea of the thing ![]() first: shows the enterance with a store(again it's a bit ugly due to the card, and i have about 750 sheets of it ![]() this shows the same store and enterance, but from inside and this is a close up of the wall texture |

Dude, the door handles say "PULL" on both sides. Talk about confusion. That would have geniuses like me struggling and rattling the doors for, like, hours. I guess it would be effective at keeping out the zombie hordes though. In all seriousness: Nice! |

That's not pimping, that's great news!!! Also, for those looking for mall floorplans, I can heartily recommend Floor Plan #4 - Mall of the Dead, from Steve Jackson Games. Comes with 8 sheets of 20" x 30" floorplans. Double-sided, one side uses hexes, the other 1" squares. The mall depicted is four stories tall: Basement is 20" x 30" (1 sheet) First level is 40" x 50" (3 sheets) Second level is 40" x 50" (3 sheets) Upper level is 20" x 30" (1 sheet) I picked this up about a month ago, and think it makes a great "template" for Worldworks Mall Building. ![]() I could snap a few piccys if anyone is interested in what it looks like. Okay, sorry for the delay. Here are a couple of piccys of the Steve Jackson Games Floor Plan 4: Mall of the Dead map set. These are quite nice, and will serve as my inspiration for building a shopping mall for zombie gaming. This is a shot of the full 1st floor of the mall: http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... ?pos=-4057 This is a close-up of one corner (upper-left) of the 1st floor: http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... ?pos=-4056 The photos are not well lit, but then, I kinda did that on purpose. Not trying to give away SJ's products, just give you a sample ![]() The set comes with 8 fold-out map sheets that are about 30" x 20" in size. They have 1" squares on one side, and hexes on the other. Everything is shades of grey as you can see. The mall is four levels, a basement (which is only 1 map), a 1st and 2nd floor (which are both three maps large) and a 3rd floor food court (only 1 map). There are elevators and escalators. The second floor has a large area that is open to the level below. There's even a fountain! ![]() Along with the maps there is a 4-page outline for the set. The front and back covers are just the advertising copy, the inside two pages are a brief summary of the 52 locations (each store has a name and a one or two sentence explanation of what they are and sell. In addition to that, there is a single sheet of cardstock color stand-ups, including 17 store employees, guards and shoppers, plus 5 zombies. Included is a cardstock Santa and a few elves, in both regular and zombie versions! ![]() Some additional counters are also included, packages, weapons, and a few critters. Stats for the critters are given in the 4-page summary. I bought mine off of ebay, but I think Steve Jackson is still selling these new. I was very happy with the whole package. My only complaint would be their choice of spotted flooring pattern, it's annoyingly busy. I wish they had gone for a simple gray shade (like they do in many of the individual stores). But then, I will correct that when I make this mall outta WWG components! Enjoy! |

I picked up the SJ Mall floorplans a couple of years back at GenCon Indy, but haven't actually used them yet. The plans do look like they would make a great building project, though it'd probably end up too large for my game table. Make sure you post pictures as you develop the mall! Arabin |

I didn't realize it was a link, thanks for pointing that out Grump! I just followed it and watched a few clips. I was very happy with that movie too. One of (if not the) first movies I took my date to see at the Midnight Movie theater. She loved horror movies and getting creeped out. She was so terrified after that movie she clung to me rather more closely than usual. Naturally, I was appauled, but managed to put up with it somehow ![]() In fact, she was so scared she insisted I follow her upstairs after I took her home (it being 2am remember) and check under her bed and in her closet to make sure there were no zombies. I wonder what her dad - a retired navy Lt Commander - would have thought if he had caught me up there? Anyway, I married that girl over 26 years ago, and she's been clinging to me ever since. I recently purchased the original (and the new remake) as a cheap DVD set. The original is hands-down better. Yeah, the production values are not really all that good, but the plot is more interesting, because the characters are far more interesting. The new remake was mostly junk, and I recall only caring about two minor characters. The old lady trucker who helped a group of people (kudos to that old bird for being a decent person in the midst of turmoil) was one. The other was the shop owner across the way. We get to know him via the white boards he holds up with messages. I don't think he ever actually speaks a word, and we mostly only see him from a distance. Anyway, I disliked the new one so much I gave it away. Fast zombies? PUH-LEEZE!!! Steve |

Sometimes I wish that remakes wouldn't try to completely redo what has been done well before. If they had increased the production quality, and the acting a bit, but had exactly the same story, perhaps it would have been better. The only addition I really like was the guy in the gun store with the white boards, though the bus lady was kinda cool too. The whole baby thing didn't shock or scare me like a horror movie should, but I didn't like it, and I don't think it added anything to the film. Oh, and slow zombies are the way to go. It's the shuffling persistance that is freaky... not those ninja zombies in the remake and other recent zombie flicks. Arabin |

Yeah, zombies should be ssllooww... eating brains is, of course, optional. I did not see the remake, but if you want to see the original Night of the Living Dead you can view it in its entirety The Auld Grump |

The original Night of the Living Dead was quite good, considering it's no-name cast and low-budget. That's really the flick that started Mr. Romeros career. I don't own that one, but probably should. Come to think of it, as big a fan of zombie movies as I am, I only own the original Dawn of the Dead, and the recent Shaun of the Dead. Poor George. The copyright lapsed on his original Night piccy, whicy is why anybody can burn it to dvd and sell it, or place it on the internet. Which is why, to raise a few bucks, he reshot that flick a few years back. But I've never seen it. I "want" to because he did it, but it's a remake, and I can't think of a remake yet that was better than the original. I usually stay away from remakes. Steve |
