Post subject: | What I do |
I find something that is close to what I want. I remove the art work so I can just see the shapes, I print it out and cutt off, or add what I need. As I go I add or cut or go back to square one, thenwhen I get it close, I measure out the angles...Time consuming I know, but I am more hands on. I also will use graph paper. Recently I picked up some cheap drafting tools, and used them to find the right angles (ugh...math...have to have my wife who's a teacher help.) Out side of trial and error I got nothing. I do not put on the 'artwork' until a simple mock up has been finished, then I go in and start screwing with the art. Photoshop is nice, Illustrator is best. I am still stumbling around Ill. Good luck. PS: Study what has come before, there are only so many ways to get a certain shape a certain size when it comes to paper. |

RJ, I don't know of any particular book or resource by name, but see if you can find any books in your area dealing with sheet metal pattern making. Might be hard to find seeing how most of that sort of thing is now done using computers and CAD programs, but you just might get lucky. If you have a community college or vo-tech school nearby, they might have something in their book stores. I have a book that was printed in 1943 that deals with all manners of sheet metal paterns and mundane stuff like finding true angles and howe to draw out cones and such, but have no idea what the title is (books at work , I'm at home). If all else fails, maybe ebay woudl have something, you never know. Good luck in your search and I hope that this is helpful and give some idea what to look for. |

At a brief glance, those links look really useful. I'll have to take a better look later when I have more time. One thing jumped out at me though... how do we get WWG listed on that site? Arabin |
