I tend to agree with Robby about the issues with your design. I made a square spiral stair shown here: http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... fullsize=1 The treads and risers are 1/2" the landings shown are 1" square. Obviously in scale that means each step is 2.5' tall which is huge, but in order for a mini to work you have to fudge a bit. Also to note the minis I use mostly have 1/2-3/4" bases so most likely a standard 1" base would be problematic on even my stairs. As far as build method, A square spiral is a bit easier than your more spiral one, but it still was a bit of trial and error. Cutting each piece and fitting it as I built, I built it chunky, with sloping undersides of the stair run and flats under the landings. Since I used the column as my base building element I was able to keept the seperate pieces to a minimum. For example the treads and risers was one part all folded, the outside face was in two parts. with a fold at the first and third landing. |

The appearance of it, just for the sake of the model - mini playing aside - is enough for me. Looks good Highland_Piper! |

I have PCON and never even concidered the stairs. Thanks Denny. I got the idea when my wife took me up some stone spiral stair cases in one of the Oxford (Exeter College) Libraries. I was thinking that it would be cool to have some for CWU and for a Scottish Castle I'm building. You should see their IT location its in the top of a small tower! Can't imagine having to lug that heavy equipment up those narrow stairs! Well I will have a look at those stairs in PCON and start from there. If anyone else has any ideas please let me know. P.S. This is just one of many CWU kitbashes I have going on right now. There are so many components to castles that I think needs to be made for such a wonderful set. |
