Hey everybody, I'm working on some kitbashes for Wormhole and I've got my models all worked out, but it turns out I'm a horrible texture creator. Does anyone know of / have / want to create some WH-style textures for me? I offer an illustrious place next to mine in the kitbash info *and* my undying gratitude. I can send you screenshots of my ships or the sketchup models to help figure out what goes where.

I will be honest with you. Texturing is the hard part. You will need either Photoshop or GIMP to make textures from scratch which both take time to learn. There are a number of free metal and ship hull textures floating around on the internet you could use, but they wont look as nice as professional ones. If you want an example of some nice textures applied to a complete model try downloading a few of these into sketchup http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... =0&start=0 Specifically this one is really well done http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... revstart=0 Most of these only use 1 texture that is wrapped around the hull. There are also a number of tutorials on making metal textures for both Photoshop and GIMP so you could try those.

I would be willing to fiddle around with textures and give your ships a try. Are they flattened or would I be texturing 3d models? I have very little experience texture mapping but I'm not too bad in photoshop. My schedule is fairly loosey goosey though, so my free time and availability often changes quickly and unexpectedly.

I bet you can tell which face is original that face is supposed to have a sort of radial missile tube pattern. I have no idea how to tackle the rear hex face. Also, the lower side faces of the forward (bridge) section look stupid the way they are so I need something different for them. Thus, I grayed them out in the flat img.
Oh, yeah, at bottom is a supply ship model, but that's a different project. I don't want to load too much on your generosity. Thanks so much for offering to help.

I've taken a look at it and I have a couple questions.

First- do you mind if I fiddle with the geometry a bit? This ties into my second question; is this a sathrican ship?

At the moment it doesn't appear to fit the design aesthetic of the sathricans. I'd point to the chunky rear end specifically. If it's cool, I'd like to play with some ideas to make it flow a bit better.

Could you also give a bit more specifics as to the idea behind the ship? It would greatly help with the texturing. At the moment I get the sense it's a closer combat flechette of missles type combat ship.

So, Sacretis and I have been pm'ing and he had some great ideas so we're moving back to the thread.

1) here's the msg that led to the redesign:

I didn't mention this, but I do have a reason for the divergent design. Here goes:

The Royalists, after losing their key shipwrights during the civil war, managed to complete the plans for the Tempest class missile platform. The efficiency lost when their best minds (died? defected? whatever) brought about the more clunky design. In any case, the Tempest functions as a cheap alternative missile platform when a Hammerhead is unavailable or inadequate. It's intended to be a lightly armored standoff ship, firing missiles from the background (think 'space sniper'-hehehe).

On the other hand, the Separatists, in their expansion away from the Royalist-controlled area of space, have discovered an ancient ship, whose technology centers around a portable wormhole (this is the other project I mentioned). After their engineers managed to decipher some of the ship's systems, the Separatists are now able to move the ship and almost instantly hack any wormhole with the ship's onboard systems. this ship-generated wormhole is too small, however, to allow anything over squadron size to pass through.

*still working on the ancient ship model but I expect that somebody else can come up with a better name than I can... at this point I'm thinking 'Trebuchet.'

2) here's Sacretis' new look for the Tempest (we're going with the left side, I think):

COOL. It looks great. Honestly, I doubt it will be too bad to build. After all, part of it's inspiration was like a mini-hammerhead, and it certainly looks less complicated than that.

I'll start playing with textures as soon as I get a chance.

What do you think? This one's *supposed* to be alien. I've been thinking of using the 'focused' hole generator (flaps in) as a short-range displacement cannon (similar to charged p-bow but much shorter range).

Update: I built the Tempest model & discovered it needed some tweaking. Here's the updated flat: (Removed the back face of the bridge section and slimmed down the aft ventral body closure, as well as lengthening the fold-under on the tail and enlarging glue tabs throughout.

Very nice as usual! Man they need to get the kitbash process moving again - I want to build some of these, dammit!

And Bob: They're working hard on something, and it might be cooler than all the backlogged kitbashes put together. I'm looking forward to whatever it is.

Just to be as clear as I'm allowed (haha) - bash releases are on hold... but only temporarily.

I'm sure you know the bash page template looks awful, and things are happening to fix that, and improve other things. And stuff.

Sorry for being so vague, everyone, but you know how it is... I enjoy my gruel here in the dungeons, and I don't want to lose my weekly scrap of bread allowance.
