| Post subject: | Using Video Game Textures for Kitbashes? |
I am curious to whether anyone has ever experimented with using video game textures to make kitbashes before? For example, I downloaded the High-Res Zelda OoT set, which can be found easily throughout the web, where a groupd made HQ versions of all the textures and then implemented them into the game so as to be used with an emulator, the resulting file, could be usable, though the res works out to be around 68 dpi, which is rather low, but I feel workable. It could be cool to build a miniature temple of time for example, as the geometry was simple enough to be done in paper. What do you think? |

In terms of official kitbash submissions that's strictly a no-no. Anything which has previous commercial value or has been copyrighted or licensed in any way, which is not purely public domain or based on WWG texture assets, is off the table. |

Yeah, that I completely realize, but for a fan fun thing, it could be pretty interesting. I have noticed that Nintendo has made no interest in requesting pulldown of the game textures, even when the roms have been pulled from the same sites, I do wonder if they simply don't care about that aspect. I'll try and sort through a few textures from HQ OoT and see if I can do a little demo layout using it's graphics. |

That'd be pretty friggin awesome, heck, I saw Mario figures at Toys R' Us, however, I wasn't thinking Mario, though I could probably do something pretty rad with that. Now, something I would like to clarify, the textures I am using are fan made, they are not direct rips from the game, granted, they are designed from the original games, they are far higher resolution and look a lot nicer. I am working on a wall texture from the Dodongo Caves right now, it looked great in game, and I am hoping it'll come out when printed, my first draft printed very green despite not looking that way in the game, anyways, I took a snip of the file for you to look at. |

I grabbed a couple screenies from within the game to show the textures in their original environment, To be honest, this project is super fun, but at the same time, I know will be near impossible to get far with, the shear variety of textures in each stage is intense, each level would be it's own release if from WWG. Actually more like it's own release plus a booster. |

So got the anchors done today, and a handful or wall designs for the Forest Temple. Here are a couple reference shots: And here is a sample of the files I did up. I can't wait for my new ink to arrive so I can get building this stuff, it is coming out really well, and I am really pumped to get constructing. A big thanks to WWG for making this project feasible and to those people who generated the textures I am using. I'd rather be showing you finished product rather than snippets, it is so hard to show you the whole picture with partial files. |
