This afternoon I worked on decks, bows and sterns for a 3" wide modifiable Maiden. I have decided to buy photoshop and do this professionally, I can already see the potential for a huge variety of size options, including width, length, and depth. I have started with the 3" so I can get some practice in using TLX as this is my first experience with it. I will have more pics up tomorrow including hopefully, posts, rails, walls, bow and stern walls. I already like what I'm seeing and hope to offer this to Denny if I do a decent job. Btw the only reason these aren't edged is because I'm not sure where I need to yet, also I discovered I need 1/4 inch foamcore, I have 3/16th. I have had to make alerations to suit but the tiles are very similiar to the 1/4 inch design (though I think thicker would be better in this case). This is just prototype, something I can screw up testing various workable options using the TLX design. I already plan on altering the other two 3 x 3 inch bow and stern decking to have quarter linx used as part of the rail and bow system, as well as the wall system. |

Lol, sure, though it's not what yout hink xyzchyx. Surprisingly I have never built the Maiden herself (though I am for comparison with the TLX version soon). I began kitbashing her from the start and made a longboat variation as my first test. The Maiden 2 is what I labled my second Maiden Kitbash as. Sadly unlike this TLX version I never did instructions and it was a fully hand altered build (no photoshop). You can see pics of both finished versions of my Maidens here, as well as original in progress pics here There is also an album for the Maiden longboat in progress but it's sparse and not as impressive. I didn't fully document either build, but took shots here and there, sadly this means there was no pics of the rear castle being built. Sadly the Maiden 2 is not an official WorldWorks design, and I didn't have photoshop then so I did what I could being creative with what I had available. Sorry to get your hopes up if you thought it was another set lol. I should rename that ship, probably confused alot more than just you. |

I spent most of my building time today building some of the other deck tiles so I'd have parts to play around with. What little I got done on posts and walls (not much sadly) are visible in the pics below. Deck Rails 3" (I knew these would turn out well, these and the inner walls should be the easiest conversions) Working on the bow piece I came up with my first trial and error (this was over the last hour) with some modifications I can make this work. I am trying to design a removable front support post, I have ideas to make it more sturdy and still removable, I'll be doing those tomorrow if I have time before game. The front piece you see in these pics is purely a trial piece for doing pretty much anything to, I prefer to test before permanently basing something on finished texture if I can. Below you can also see one of the more obvious and expected problems I knew I would encounter. P.S. I have resized the pictures in the original post so this is a little more load friendly (later I will remove old ones and replace them with links), as well sorry for the drop in quality, the battery died on the cam right when I tried to take the first pic so I used my webcam which doesn't like the average light in my room. |

I see you're running into the same thing I ran into with my Hinterlands build... Getting the curves just right does take a good bit of fiddling to get right. It looks like you have a good start on it though - hopefully you don't need to many more tries to get it right. Magius out. |

Thanx Magius, curved walls havn't presented issues for me yet, curved bent walls on the other hand. It's ok though, I found a way around it. So far my deck layout of tile parts gives me variations on four different widths of ship, 3, 6, 12, and 18 inch wide versions. I have done various layouts as well as the various bow, center deck and stern tiles. Below are pics of the different designs laid out on graph paper. This first one is the tiles and the 18 inch wide behemoth test layout off to one side (you can see some of the tiles in use). Also there will be two versions of the 6x3 inch tile, one with decking running lengthwise, the other with decking running widthwise. This second image shows several different ship variations that should be possible. I'm open to suggestions and ideas. It should be noted that three different sizes of mast width will be available, Also by keeping to the 3/6 inch grid I can still make this set into 1.5 inch grid without additional issues (a later expansion may allow for more even number designed ships, I started to get way too many tiles). |

I took some time off of this project to learn Gimp2 and to build Dwarven TLX for my gamers. It is still progressing, I just don't have anything printable yet, everything current is prototype mostly made by hand. Is anyone else having issues with 6x6 TLX tiles printing true 6x6. I am having issues with this no matter what settings I use on my printers. |

I don't have any trouble with that with my Epson - it may be your printer. Like sunraven said, HP printers are notorious for that. Otherwise, just make sure page scaling is turned off - but I don't think that's your problem. You could measure how much your printer is changing the size by, then scale the tile in the GIMP or Photoshop to adjust, but considering the cost of printers, that may be an unnecessary amount of work. Come to think of it, I did print a few pieces on my older HP printer, and didn't have a problem, however I don't think they were groundtiles - just a few walls and props and posts. |

Having finally finished my Maiden build, I've taken some time to relook at old posts... How has your modular TLX Maiden project come along? It intrigued me at the time - which happened to be when I first came aboard WWG & the Forums - but then my build was but a glimmer in my mind's eye... |

I put alot of my paper model stuff into mothballs, you'd think with a year and a half off of work I'd have found the time to do more with this. Unfortunately I don't have the work space I once did right now, my printer crapped out on me and I havn't gotten around to getting a new one. Though I'm working on changing that. I am back to work as of this year and off of Workers Compensation. There was more progress than the above pictures show, I will look into adding some additional pics if I can find the container it's stored in. I upgraded to an Iphone 4 (it was free though now I'm sucked into a long term contract >.<) So I have a pretty decent camera available at all times. I miss this hobby alot and now that my left thumb is functioning at about 80% I am looking at getting back into it again. Apologies for any that hoped this would be anything short and in the near future. I'm climbing out of a pretty deep hole and getting myself going again. It is amazing what alot of time on your hands and no money can do to ones psyche. I have popped in from time to time and enjoyed alot of the new builders and their pics. This hobby just keeps getting better and better. P.S. Denny & Co, loving the new stuff that's coming out, you guys always did brilliant work, but now your building on that perfection rather than sliding. I always knew this company would go places

Been there done that (job sit-wise) so I understand. Best wishes that you're getting back in the running. Just finished my Maiden build - imperfections, but it was my first big solid build = learning curve.  Starting a couple concept TLX-friendly Deadfall-theme riverboat builds: "Deadfall Jack" - a tramp sidewheeler (nothing more than a floating barn/warehouse with a few passenger compartments) using a lot of Thoumonts-TLX; "Deadfall Queen" - somewhat larger casino passenger riverboat that has seen better days actually kitbashing other WWG textures (while expanding my GIMP working knowledge). |
